Any more info on this? I too looked into it when I spent so much buying my showline. I just couldn't decipher through all the fine print, of all of the companies and choose the best. I don't want to be throwing my $ away if it wasn't going to pay for most things. I don't know anyone personaly who uses it, so I just didn't know what to expect.

4pack, Whatever you decide to buy, before you pay a dime, make sure that it is valid in your state. A man I know on another board paid for pet insurance, apparently for quite some time and when he needed to use it was told that they did not cover our state. It has kind of made ME wary of buying any, but I have not really researched it either. Lorri

Yahoo search turns up several entries. Health plans seem fairly reasonable(9.99/month and up). Mortality seems applicable only for service dogs(none found for show/competition dogs). For liability I was quoted 772.00/yr per dog for $100,000 coverage w/5000 deductible. I am not sure if I do better with my home owners coverage or if other providers are more reasonable.

I have used VPI (Veterinary Pet Insurance) for several years and have been very pleased with them. They process my claims usually within 2-3 weeks. They do not cover any "pre disposed" conditions such as HD or ED but are up front about that so don't look for them to cover hip replacement surgery etc. I started out paying $9 when I first acquired my GSD and now 5 years later is $13 per month. They do have additional riders you can purchase as well. It's more for peace of mind than anything for me. Michele

My main concern is emergencies and illness. Regular vet checkups would be nice as well. I see they do cover all of that. Can anybody tell me what they don't like?

by Giggles on 12 October 2006 - 01:10

I have had VPI insurance, not only for shots, but when my dog got sick , they were great but they dont cover emerncie c-section none of the breeding stuff, that i dont like.. if it has to do with breeding related they wont cover it .only sickness, or other surgy not related to your breeding. you can get a free packet mailed to you.. i will be using them again soon.. so read always the fine lines.. there up front just ask all info on the phone.. good luck. giggles

About the C-section and breeding stuff, that is why I didn't purchase it yet. It's kind of hit and miss with what it will benefit you. Still allot of things come out of pocket.

I have VPI and figure the primary use is it covers my routine care and any accidents that we have. Maybe I don't recoup it in a given year but Cyra's broken canine covered a few years of premiums. I got it since I have wound up with several trips to the emergency vet for injuries. (Working dogs)
