Hi new to this message board..Have recently bought a GSD puppy by Nyrvana Petr x Richbags Maggie, she came to me at four months old (I was told 3) full of worms, and was so dehydrated that she continually drank every drop of water that was put down so much so she had diarrhea for about 10 days after arriving.  At present I am more concerned about her eyes, they have been sore and itchy for around 7 weeks starting with swollen eyelids, then getting tiny blisters which she rubbed until they burst, we have Advocated her incase it was localized mites (I have 5 other dogs and none have shown signs) and a course of antibiotics which worked at the beginning but it seems to have flared up again, with a vengeance.  My vet has checked for entropian but all seems ok, thank goodness.
She now has a course of steroid drops with don't seem to be touching it and will have to see an ophthalmologist what I wonder is if anyone out there can shed a light on this or knows anything about the "Richbags" dogs, as I got this pup from the sires kennels and know nothing of the dam.  Is there anything in her breeding that I should be concerned about. Other than that she has a beautiful temperament, very clever and is the most gentlest even with my Chi's and the best friend of my 9 year old deaf son, we all love her to bits but hate to see her distressed.

Sounds almost like demodectic mange?

Perhaps you can try contacting the sire's owner of Nyrvana.  She is quite knowlegeable with general health issues as well and since her male is used, she may know more about the dam's side.

Could you post photos of her eyes?? That would help determine if she does have demodex.  Skin scrappings are usually done but alot of times they don't always tell you if they have it. I would see if your vet can get you Revolution, we used that on a couple of our rescues and it worked great.  A eye specialist is always a good idea if your vet doesn't know whats going on with her, eye conditions are too serious to play around with diagnosing.  My adult rescue came into the shelter with Pannus, her eyes were deep red and were tearing constantly she would also wipe at them and rub her face all the time.  She was put on Pred Forte and it worked wonders for her, still had a reddish tinge to her eyes but the pain/irritation was gone.
Best of luck!
Amy
