A friend sent me a link to this site...I don't know about all of you, but to me, this seems like a puppy mill, encouraging other puppy mills, or people to start puppy mills. Maybe I'm over reacting, your imput would be appreciated. Here's the link to the site:
http://www.work-4-me.com/?OVRAW=dog%20breeding&OVKEY=dog%20breeding&OVMTC=standard
You'll have to do the copy and paste technique. If I'm out of line about feeling this site is supporting puppy mills, please explain your reasoning behind it. This individual talks about selling 40+ puppies per year, and making 10-12 THOUSAND dollars off of it...Any **GOOD** breeder is lucky to make that in three years.

Just an idiot looking to make a buck off of other idiots....As you know, this person has a "right" to do it, regardless of what you or I think about it.
As for what constitutes a "puppy mill", you should understand that there are a number of people reading this site who breed or import this number of GSDs per year, some many more. I am not one of those. In addition, you will never get consensus on the definition of a "puppy mill". Money rules the world and that spills over to breeding dogs as well.
All the more reason for buyers to beware and know what they are buying and from whom and to do their homework before buying. But we have visited that topic on this forum repeatedly and sadly, the messages always pass some by.
It is true, there are a lot of suckers in the world and people like this person are just taking advantage of that.

Probably makes a ton of money selling the CD to people, more then they will ever make on puppies.

This is not a puppy mill. This person is making money off of selling a business plan to potential customers. No different from a person selling how to get rich in real estate plans or how to get rich in the stock market or Mary Kay. Just gleaning through the page, I don't see any "evidence" that this person bred even one litter although they say they have.
Krista, it does not mean you are a **GOOD** breeder if it takes you 3 years to make 10-12 thousand dollars. It only means- that it took you 3 years to make 10-12 thousand dollars, nothing more or nothing less.

I looked at the site, and I agree that it is but a "get rich quick" marketing scheme just like all of the others.
It's just a shame that now purebred dogs are the subject of the marketing scheme.
Gee, if I could sell fourty (40) puppies in one (1) year I could make money. I guess it's best to keep the day job once I have another one.

Hodie, Edd, and Bob-O,
Can you imagine how many dogs a person would have to have, or how many repeated litters a person would have to have to sell each for $400-$600 to make 10-12K?! I breed ONE litter a year, usually my female whelps about 10-12 puppies (Goldens, mind you) and this is enough. I sell my puppies for $600-$900 and after all the expences, including Pregnancy Care, Vet Care, Food, Time Spent, I'm lucky if I make $1000 off of the whole litter. SGBH, I'm not taking a shot at you, but if you sold ALL those puppies (40+) in ONE year, could you be 100% sure they were all properly socialized, going to loving families, recieved all the nessisary health care, ect? I guess the fact that I don't make $12,000 in three years doesn't make me a **GOOD** breeder, but the fact that I actually give a damn about my puppies, and lower the prices to sell to some families who deserve a good pet, THAT makes me a good breeder.

Krista,
For you to have discovered another puppy mill, what search terms, phrases or better yet, what was your friends intentions? What was your friend looking up or researching? You know what they say when someone tells you, "I have this friend" or similar such things. If you are lost, ask a parent or counselor somewhere. A puppy mill or puppy pedlar is usually someone selling more puppies then you and the jealousy monster has got to you.

blueskyekennels,
In your initial post you requested input. I gave you mine. Now how do I fit into your retorical hypothetical question? I don't.

While it might be helpful to realize a $12000 profit as a hobby breeder, that hardly qualifies as a business. By those standards the window washers are regular tycoons.

It is amazing to me the number of threads that address the aspect of MONEY. The market(consumers)determine that and thank God it is not regulated and is a free market. The "money genie" is out of the bottle, and no one can put it back in, so let's just move forward and promote/uplift the GSD, itself. With the many facets of the GSD, including the many health issues, training/titling issues, showing, and actual breeding issues, ect., I find there is a lot of preoccupation with what I think is the LEAST important subject matter surrounding the GSD. That being MONEY.
