Hey friends,my 30kg dog just ate 2/3 of a medium kong. Should I induce vomiting or wait to pass.it can not be more than 1 hour since he went out.
I have no vet today

If it was chewed in small enought pieces(not causing an obstruction), it will pass through the dog. I would suggest getting some high fiber canned dog food and give him a couple and wait for it to push through, if no vet services are available. That is probably what the vet will do anyway. Just a suggestion.

Your friend really need to find a vet NOW... even if your friend have to drive far distance. I would NOT try to make the dog vomit as it would be a very dangerous thing to do as it could be a plug to stop the airway and instant death for the dog.

GSDLvr2, although it is of zero importance now; just a note for the future. There are kongs made from a type of rubber that will show on an x-ray if it is ingested by the dog.
Hopefully they were very small pieces, as is the norm. I agree with Stephen and would watch this dog's toilet habits for the next twenty-four (24) hours or so. The canned food is an excellent suggestion, and has worked for me in the past.

If he could swallow it, he probably can pass it. But seriously, I have no idea. First time I heard of a dog eating a kong. Rubber breaks down over time, so it might be a good idea not to keep a kong around too long. Replace it every couple of years. I would assume that the makers have tested them for all sort of possibilities, including one like that. Better be sure though. Do you have a vet you can call for a more qualified suggestion? There must be an emergency vet clinic somewhere you can call. Or a pet store that carries them? Or the manufacturer. Should be easy enough to find a number online for them these days. Good luck. Keep an eye on your buddy to make sure he stays well. At least call the vet first thing tomorrow.

Since no vet is available, I would add the suggestions that you feed him canned food or something are good... also make the meals small and feed many of then to trya and keep things moving thru regularly....
I'd look for the blue xrayable kongs for this pup and be around when they are out and accessible!
Good luck

Hi GSDlvr2,
What I do when my dogs swallow something they shouldn't have I give them some butter, or a bit of oil (Veggie). It gives them the runs for a few days, but I usually see 90% of the stuff they ate come out, and follow up with the vet after that. Keep us posted,

My male goes crazy for a kong, or any toy made from the kong rubber. He can rip pieces off of a red or black kong in a matter of a hour or so.
He ate a few small size pieces from a red kong a while back. They showed up in his stool the next day.
I gave it one more shot with a black kong with the same results. I don't leave them around any more for him to play with unsupervised. He's the only dog that I've had over the years with enough strength and determination to accomplish this...so yes there are some dogs that do need to be watched with kongs.
