Took some new photos today of my WL/DDR Bred pup!!  She just turned 7 months and is 54 pounds.

She finished her UKC CH at 6 months old in one weekend and I hope to try for her UKC Grand Championship; dabble in AKC once or twice; and try to get a SV style conformation rating. Of course, I hope to put performance titles on her as well!

If anyone is experienced in SV style showing please- honestly- comment if they think, strictly conformation-wise, that she may be able to get a G or SG assuming her movement is on par. I have no clue. Never been to a SV conformation show.  But, I read that she needs a G, SG, V, or VA to be considered breedworthy for the breed survey thing. I know she is not V or VA as she looks nothing like those dogs as they seem much, much bigger boned, heavier, and such.  But, I would like to, at least, be able to attain a G. However, if people experienced with the SV style do not think she is what they are looking for than I won't waste too much of my time!!

Thank you,
Sara

Sara, not saying that I am experienced in the SV style show ring... as I have only shown a couple of my working line dogs.  But I see no reason that she couldnt get a G rating (or maybe even SG).  You can tell she is young and hasnt "filled out" yet... Which is to be expected at her age.

I would find a judge who is fair to working line dogs...  some judges are known to be fair to working dogs while others are known to not like them so much.  I would also make sure she is well trained and prepared.  The judge will have an easier time giving her a higher rating if she is presented well!  I am assuming if you have been showing in UKC she is well ring trained, but I dont know how different that is from the SV style ring?

To get a G/SG you will need to show her once she turns a year old.  You can show her between 12-24 months and then after that she needs to have a working title to be shown.  They do sometimes offer a 24+ month untitled class, but those show ratings dont "count" for the breed survey.  Then of course you need to get her SchH title and AD before you can do the breed survey.

FWIW, my 55lb working line female is SG rated (from the 12-18 month class when she was younger) and this past fall got her Kkl1.

Good luck!

Btw, your girl is very cute!  I like the expression on her face!  Congrats on what you have done with her already!

Thanks, Valerie!

I think my big problem is having her gait in front of me.  I think they do that in the SV shows. In UKC, she gaited by my side. I am not sure how to teach her to gait in front of me.  I am also not sure where to find help for this type of SV style showing. I contacted a couple of local breeders who have WGSL dogs that have V in front of their names for help. But, they said they do not know who too direct me to for help.

So, I guess these dogs either come out of the womb gaiting or were taught prior to being imported!!!

A club I found on-line did say they have a practice show right before the event but I feel like that will not be sufficient time to prepare.  Somebody once posted that I need to let someone else run her around and, apparently, I stand on the outside of ring yelling at her or something. That just seems plain stupid to me!! Plus, where do I find this person who gaits dogs around the ring? I am not sure if she would even go with a complete stranger....

How many times do they go around?

How do I find out which judges like working line dogs?

Any help would be appreciated!!

Pretty girl.  IMHO I would guess:
G
and if shown under a judge with strong WL loyaties, perhaps SG.  Good luck!  I hope to see you around the ring :-)

Oh, just FYI there will soon no longer be Kor 1 or 2 just a Kor report.

W

Sara, yes you should get a handler for her in the SV style ring.  You will double handle her outside the ring.  Not stupid at all.  She will want to pull out infront of the handler to come to you!  If you do not know any handlers in your area, the club hosting the show can usually recommend one to you or put you in contact with one.  You dont really "yell at her"... but depending on how she acts in the ring your handle may have you call her, make noises, run infront of her, hide, get her attention, etc... The purpose is to make her look her best, pull out in front (but not pull TOO hard), keep her ears up, keep her alert.  She shouldnt have a problem going with a stranger.  You will still be THERE, just across the ring!

Going to the practice shows/ring training before the show will help!  It should also give you some time to prepare with the handler who will take her into the ring.  One thing I have noticed is the SV style ring is not nearly as "structured" as the AKC ring.  The shows I have been to have been pretty "relaxed".

As I said, I have only shown a few dogs... so cannot give a lot of advice on the show side of things :)  But I know that Scheld is a good judge for working line dogs... as is Dieter Oeser (that is who my female got her SG under).  My female got her Kkl1 under Johannes Grewe, He gave my sisters working line male a Kkl2 that same day.

As for how many times they go around the ring, that depends on the judge... and also on the size of the show.  A larger regional show may have them go around quite a few more times than a smaller local/club show.

Where are you located?  When are you looking to show her?  When will she be a year old?

Sara, I agree with Valerie 100%.

I'd like to see more photos of her not stretched quite so much with her outside hock at a right angle to the ground.

W...that's good news!!  I would be happy with a G!!

I am not familar with the Kor 1 or 2. Is that the KKL thing? Please explain....

Valerie,

Thanks for the information!! She will be 1 in May and I hope to show her in New England or NY. But, I am only allowed to show her at WDA shows, I believe (since I am a GSDCA member).

I guess I can post the judges names for the shows as they approach and see if anyone will comment on whether or not like Working Line dogs!!

So, I am assuming that I train her then by having someone gait her at home around a ring and I call her name?  Someone once suggested to me how to teach her to gait in front without help but I lost the e-mail.

Yes, she would go with a stranger but I can see her looking at me the entire time (but I guess that is a good thing?).

Thanks again,
Sara

Blitzen, not sure what you mean about the hock? I just picked up her outside leg and put it farther up but behind the line of her front leg....

Please advise!!!!

Smily,
As of right now, I believe it is still Kkl 1 or Kkl 2, but with the new changes coming to the organization, this will be changing to just a Kor Report not Kkl 1 or Kkl 2.
Also in the stack picture the hock should be perpendicular to the ground.  In the picture it is slightly not.
