RE: V9 (AUT) Natz van de Herdersfarm
I have noticed a lot of his offspring have poor hips here in the database and other sources. I'm hoping that's not the norm for him?
How many of you have pups from him and how are their hips?
I know he's in the US now and have been considering a pup from him depending on what I hear about hips.
Thanks,
Gabby

hdzw is 88 so you can expect 12% better than average (depending on the dam) Anecdotal evidence is of little value, and rather serves to feed the mills of misinformation. I would look for a breeding with a zw in the 70's or low 80's if possible. I choose a stud based on their merits, then eliminate them based on their baggage including high zw. good luck

Depending on what the total zw numbers in the parents are, and in the ancestry are what would be your best bet. A total around 150 is great, anything around 175 should start to raise a flag. I would never consider anything around zw total of 200.
I once purchased a pup that the parents zw numbers were within range but the pup was born without hip-sockets. Only until further investigation did I find that the problem came from down the line.
The sires zw was in the low 70's and the dam was a low 80. The second generation showed scores in the 100 range on both sides.

I know about the numbers... I'm looking for people who have pups from him now. How are their hips?
Thanks,

where is natz if you dont mind me asking? Gabby i would worry more about the fact that he has never passed bitework at the seiger show in germany. I heard he is a very very soft dog. Make sure its a strong bitch being bred to him.

Gabby,
If you could get a list of females he has bred with, and then contact the owners of those that have his puppies, maybe that could give you the more accurate picture that you are seeking. This is tremendous work, I know. ZW numbers are fine for those dogs in the database, but a more true picture, I suppose would have to include those hips that were poor and the x-rays just thrown away(those NOT in the database). If you could research the number of litters he has sired and the nuber of progeny actually in the database, it would give you a ratio to look at and asses, also(as it relates to the TRUE overall picture). Just an idea. Also a lot of families don't x-ray at all, leaving the unknown factor. Short of that, I would imagine doing a database research of all siblings, aunts, uncles, grand parents and great grand parents and their siblings/progeny would "aid" in giving you the info you desire. I found out with my last litter that the parents(going back 7 generations and ZW numbers don't necsisarily add up to good hips. I look at that info, but I realize that in reality, I might not get on the ground, what I have on "paper".

Thanks Stephen,
I have been doing exactly that you mention. I was just hoping to hear if any others here have any of his offspring.
