subhani, I'm happy to hear that you had a positive experience in dealing with them. Here's another story for your reading pleasure. My friend bought an Ando son from Mr. Stenner of the Urbecke Kennel out of his brood bitch Quarte. He was diagnosed with severe hip displasia at 6 months of age. Mr. Stenner was told of the problem and mailed a copy of the x-rays. His reply through his partner Dietmar was that the hips didn't look too bad! The dog would need more time to mature, re-do the x-rays in 6 months and send him a copy. Well the dog did not last another 6 months. I ran into Mr. Stenner at the Sieger Show in Oberhausen and told how disappointed I was with the way he treated my friend and I would have expected more from a "Top" kennel. He told me that he thought that Dietmar had taken care of it. He had a nice young lady with him that spoke perfect English and took all my contact information down. He PROMISED that she would be in contact with me within a week and that he would replace the pup for my friend at 1/2 price. Well let’s see.... it’s only been about 5 weeks since the Sieger Show and needless to say I have heard NOTHING from them. The bottom line is that when dealing with ANY kennel that is not within traveling distance to you, you had better do your due diligence to ensure that not only are you getting what you have been promised and paid good money for, but that the breeder is reputable enough to back up what they sell. Sure it was disappointing that the pup was displastic but I can’t really blame Stenner for that. Both Ando and Quarte have zw’s of about 70 so you would think that the cards would be stacked in favor for having a dog with good hips, it was a VERY nice breeding in both geno & pheno type. What I do blame Stenner for, and do take exception to, is the manner in which he handled, or should I say FAILED to handle the situation. If you are in the U.S. you would be better served to purchase from a reputable kennel that stands behind what they sell. It may cost you more money, but it’s better than being ripped off. PS. Mr. Stenner, you still have the opportunity to “Do the right thing” and prove that you are indeed reputable. I promise that I will state publicly how you made things right for my friend just as I have posted the negative experience my friend had with you. Regards, Andrew

I would like to let everyone know that I have been contacted by the Urbecke Kennel in regads to my above post. They seem to be genuinly concerned about making things right. Apparently there was a communication breakdown, I do believe that it's a step in the right direction and true to my word I will publically post the outcome. Thank you for the emails Mr. Stenner & Dietmar, I'm confident that everything can be worked out fairly. Regards, Andrew

Our kennel is almost completely made up of Urbecke dogs. We are so far very happy with our dealings with Dietmar, who is our good friend.

Well it's been about 3-1/2 months since my last post and true to my word I'm happy to say that both Fritz Stenner and Dietmar Papenberg have been very helpful in straightening out the problem I had. I have just received 2 very nice female pups from an excellent breeding of Negus Holtkamper See & Sesa v. Noort. Both pups are beautiful and healthy. Mr. Stenner & Mr. Papenberg have also helped me to acquire a beautiful young SchH titled Bax daughter for a friend of mine. He is VERY happy with her. It's nice to see that sometimes things do work out well. Thank you Fritz & Dietmar, you are both very honest and have done the right thing! Kind regards, Andrew

Andrew, My situation is very similar to that of your friend. I bought a female pup (Bazi Urbecke daughter) from Stenner recently. Her litter was on the Urbecke website and all my dealings were with Stenner. She was very small, was cow hocked and had wobbly legs. My vet told me "This pup isn't normal". I contacted Stenner, who told me that he really wasn't the breeder and that it wasn't his problem. He said that I needed to contact Grubecke since they owned the Bitch.I was told that the pup would probably outgrow this and that wobbly legs were not uncommon. In the USA this type of misrepresentation is called Fraud. I believed that I was buying the pup from Urbecke. I went to the Urbecke website and dealt with Stenner because I thought that the Urbecke Kennel could be trusted. This is like buying a BMW and finding that you have a Subaru engine. I was/am frustrated and angry. Ultimately the pups xrays proved that she has HD. I then dealt with Grubecke, who was very fair and reasonable. He offered a new pup or a refund....which I thought was a fair and satisfactory offer. I'm making the best of a bad situation. My family has bonded with her. She's getting neutered on Tues. I now have a pet that will have a shortened life and ongoing medical problems. This is not what I expected when I went shopping for a "Quality" pup from a "Top German Breeder"

I also had purchased one of Mr. Stenner's pups, he was the top pick of the litter!  I purchased him back at the end of June 08, he was about 9-weeks old when I received him.  He had the most beautiful black and red coloring and a very unusual pup, very affectionate!

At almost 7-months old (Dec. 1st, 2008) he was getting to be very big and then this morning (Dec. 1st)  he died from Acute pulmonary thromboembolism,  he had collapsed and I rushed from work to take him to the vet but it was too late.  The vet said even if it had happened right there at the vet, there would have only been a 10% chance to save him!

I was told before I purchased the pup that Mr. Stenner would  replace him with a pup of equal quality if something like this were to happen to him at an early age.  I emailed Dietmar, Mr. Stenner's partner and am awaiting his reply.

I am heartbroken at my loss for this pup was really special and you could see in him that he was going to turn into a super adult GSD!

My appreciation goes out to Andrew for helping me acquire this pup for the short time he was with me!
