I have my female to be mated. My friends female will not allow his male to breed to her. He is now trying to hold her and she is fighting. Both have never done it before but he is trying hard and she keeps fighting him off and attacking him. It is day 12 after blood showed on her. My female will let him as shne is also in prime heat now. Any suggestions on how to help him with his male and female?

Get 3 people.Hold her ,muzzle her and keep her face from his.And let him have her. She is not the boss of this, you are. Sounds brutal but this is what you do.

We just tried. She keeps fighting hard and twisting her neck and kicking and fighting her legs and body so he can not get in her. We do not wish to hurt her but it is seeming impossible.

Ana, get more people. One or two holds the face and neck, one holds the back end of her ,if she is very upset like she sounds to be, another one guides the male into her and if necessary another one holds the male. Not impossible. E mail me if you like, I will try to help

Take her in for progesterone bloodwork! She is probaby NOT ready. Day 12 sounds early. If you do not take her in, try her again on day 14. Her blood color should be like straw or very very light pink. Sounds like the timing is not right here and she is trying to tell you.

Sorry, you did not do progesterone? or vaginal smears ?or did you?

This dog is not ready for breeding. When she is ready she will stand, WILLINGLY. If the male is also inexperienced, that will explain his willingness to plunge ahead. When her body is ready for breeding, she will not/CAN not refuse the male, even if she wanted to. Holding her against her will, while she fights, is what the human species calls rape. You can force her all day(and someone may get bit in the process), but if you want puppies to result from this encounter, listen to her. Wait until she tells you she is ready, and that includes her standing willingly and throwing her tail to the side to allow penetration when the male mounts her from behind. Progesterone test is a good idea. Good Luck! Stephen

So if you are only going according to what day it is in her cycle then she may not be ready. You need to have a vet involved to do the tests. It is also my experience that not all "ready" females will stand and some need to be" raped',if you use human words. It sometimes goes that way or you get no puppiesYou need to decide how bad you want these puppies,if she never does "consent"....then what? you ok to force her or not? I admit, I don't like the idea of forcing her but sometimes it goes that way. I only told you how I was taught ,I can't say I agree it should be done at all costs.

To me she just seems to be dominant to him and does not want him in that position as it means dominance. She attacks and fights him and puts her paws on his back and does a sort of mount on him. The owner is not willing to hurt her so he might do artificial insemination with a syringe. Thank you all for your help.
