Is there any way the admins can fix the multiple dog entries? I was looking through Iltis von der Wildsau and his offspring......and there are two entries of him. One entry had 54 progeny, the other like 14..... It makes it where the line breeding is not complete or accurate on pedigrees so I fixed the 14 by changing them to the other "Iltis" that was on the database first. Is there any way for the admins to fix the others though?

I fixed the 14 offspring by putting them to the correct Iltis von der Wildsau.........However when I tried to delete the other one, this shows up.........
Note that owning physically a dog is not he same as owning the pedigree. Pedigree information is open and accessible to the world. If you do not want your dog to be listed here, there is really is nothing you can do. Simply next time do not buy a registered dog.
Note that you did not register this dog, but you are deleting the pedigree.
Due to recent malicious mass deletion of pedigrees we have limited deletions to those that registered a dog or someone who owns the pedigree
The dog is registered in the system by rockinrkranch, contact him/her with your reason for deletion
You are about to remove V Iltis von der Wildsau from the database!!
IP number and username is being logged
Only confirm if you know what you are doing

When I went to put in one of my girls sire it had another entry for him but it wouldn't let me use it so I had to do another one to get her on here.
I don't think anyone should be going in and changing pedigrees and deleting anything unless it is your dog. I don't like people messing with my pedigrees period. And by the way I don't mess with other people's.
I'm sorry if I stepped on your toes but I know there have been in the past people messing with them that shouldn't be.

vonissk are you kidding me? What did I change about it? Go through all progeny of Iltis von der Wildsau and guess what is different about them? Absolutely nothing! They all still have him as their sire, just under the correct, original entry of him......That's it. If I never made this post, people who have progeny of him would never even know anything was different. I don't see what the problem with that is........

Not only that, that corrects the line breeding on puppies or dogs who are "grand kids" of him as well. Kristen Campbell is the one who made the 2nd entry of him. .... Do you know who she is?

I do understand that many people, especially breeders, rely on this site for information and often link to pedigrees from their websites. It would definitely be a pain to find that someone had deleted fifty dogs you had painstakingly added to the database or changed hip info to dysplastic when this is not the case. With that said...
IMHO, I think this new policy defeats the purpose of this site. The power of any database like PDB lies in crowd-sourcing. When you limit the ability of the "crowd" to correct false information in order to prevent malicious deletion attacks (which does need some kind of solution), you just cause other kinds of problems. There are many valid reasons for someone other than the original creator of the pedigree to delete the pedigree. Duplicate entries are a problem in most databases and there needs to be a way to clean them up. Otherwise, you continuously run into problems like the ones GSDguy08 has mentioned. However, I don't see a good solution for the malicious deletions either...

I just don't think if they're not your dogs you should be messing with it. Also I guess I really don't like that you tried to delete one of the entries.

vonissk, so what if I owned a puppy from one of the Iltis progeny.......but because the Iltis progeny itself was listed under the incorrect Iltis......It made it where the linebreeding on my puppy was not correct. Should I create the exact same son or daughter of Iltis (making once again, a duplicate entry of a dog) with the correct "Iltis" in order to make it correct......Seriously vonissk, don't be stupid. Do you think I should email all 15 people who are owners of the Iltis progeny that were listed under the wrong one? How likely is it that I get ahold of even half of them? Or....since I made it correct......and the fact that the only thing they will ever see different is the correct linebreeding of their litter........

by vonissk on 16 November 2011 - 18:11
I'm not stupid and what you are saying I can sort of understand. But wanting to delete a pedigree I definately don't understand because it's no9t your dog. I know there is a way to lock them so people can't do that and I think they all should be done that way. But what I will say and this is my last comment, if you don't own the dog or a puppy from it then LEAVE IT ALONE.
In fact what I wonder is where you people with multiple dogs get the time to come over here and go through pedigrees finding those to either fix or bash.

Where was I finding pedigrees to bash? I don't go through other dogs pedigrees changing information or things about them, I'm just familiar with Iltis and the thing is........ I would still not technically be deleting him if he is in the database twice. The thing I don't get.....Kristen Campbell, who you still never said if you know or not, made the second entry of Iltis. Big time scammer (Just do a search for her on the database), and she was not the owner of Iltis. I'm sure if I contact Chip.....who actually was the owner of Iltis, and Chip would not care if I deleted the second entry of Iltis.
