Would a good sized 2 year old protection trained female (who was spayed at the 2 year old mark) be a good protector?
Does spaying a mature female cause her to take on more male like characteristics?

its not the size of the dog in the fight its the size of fight in the dog forgat the bull about more like a male if she has it she has it

I agree male or female it depends on the dog and training. My daughters female is much more protective than my male. She is the smallest of our shepherds but she more than makes up for it, in attitude.

Yup, the specific dog means more then anything.

I have a 92 lb oversized male and one of my girls is 68 lbs. To protect me, my bet is my girl. As 4 says, she may be my smallest but she is one tough girl...

Toss the coin, my 3 and half male is a Bullet and does it naturally without any protection training or bitework. His breeder in Germany is Leistngzucht. Exactly what he said he was sending arrived!

Again... goes back to individual dog ! I have a 53 # 1 yr old female who is tearing up the sch field, has everyones eyes wide open when she's working. She's dynamite. But, The important thing here is that you need to SEE this dog if you are unsure. And if you are unfamiliar take someone with expeirience with you to help you.
As far as the spaying thing goes. Who the heck knows on that one. I've never heard of issues like that but have heard of various things come up after spaying. So coin toss there in my OP.

Any dog needs to be tested. Many females seem like pussycats until under threat. They have a tendency to be slightly sharper than males (higher threat perception) the real question is the nerve strength which should be tested. Bear in mind that with sufficient training ANY dog offers some protection. Also, 99 ouy of 100 assailants will run from a dog. The other one will be bitten.

Someone once told me that all spaying guaranteed was no more puppies.
