I have a beautiful 8 month old Pakros son. I would love to get another beautiful male of the same age. I would also like to keep the two of them intact. However, I would consider having the second one altered at two years or so after he is substantially matured.
Is this even possible?
If not, would it be plausible to introduce a two year old obedience and bite trained female into the house with the 8 month old Pakros son?
it has been our experience that males can get along as long as no females are present. females......now, that is an entirely different matter. yeeeeeshhhh.
my boys got along until they hit 18 months old, and females came into heat, oh boy was I in for an eye opener, my boys got into it, not drastically, but it could have gone there, they now are separated from each other. each of them having some girls to live with that are NOT in heat. It's a bummer though.
Thanks for the great replies.
Would it be better if I bought a 18-24 month protection trained female and introduced her to my 8 month old male?
Another question.
Would a good sized 2 year old protection trained female (who was spayed at the 2 year old mark) be a good protector?
Does spaying a mature female cause her to take on more male like characteristics?
It is possible.... I have 2 intact adult males living in the same house with an intact female. They are all in the house together. All 3 are working dogs. They work things out and as of yet we haven't had any major problems. I'm lucky that one of my males defers to the other and the bitch rules them all.
I would say the "SAFE" answer to all those questions would be that it's probably going to be an individual dog thing.. Meaning you might have issues spaying you might not, meaning a 2 yr old could be a good protector but she may not. Those questions are really loaded questions in my opinion.
I would say get someone who "KNOWS" GSD's to help you choose the "Right" dog for "YOU" hope that helps and makes sense. Wish you lots of luck.

Sounds like you are describing the general history of humankind! :-)
My two titled half-brothers are both used at stud. If they were ever together (which I have never attempted), they would likely try to kill each either. Otherwise, they are not dog aggressive. I make sure that there are always two doors separating them.
I have 2 males and they are fine. They get "pushy" with each other but I am the boss...not them. The girls...now that's another story!!! It's a love/hate relationship with 2 of them, but they really would die without each other..
I would recommend to let the males stay away from each other put him up with a female(not in season) that is ok since he is young the mother instinct comes through.females should not be together either because of the alpha sentiment. But there is a chance if they grew up with each other and have not been seperated always togther then ja.If they have been trained to SSCH then don't put female to female or Male to male I thing you know what I am talking about. My Handler gave me that advise for my GSD long time ago in Germany before I came to the states. And I did see the aggression from my side.
