pregnancy feeding amounts - Page 1

I have a 60lb. female that I feed Eagle Pack. She normally eats 2 cups a day. Now that she is pregnant I have been feeding her a little more then 3 cups a day divided into 3 meals. She will be six weeks along by this weekend. Is this enough food or should I feed more? I have also been taking her for at least a mile walk about every day for exercise. I know each type of food is different so I am wondering what amounts of Eagle Pack others feed. I don't want her to be to thin but then being overfed isn't good either. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Mysti

Mysti, give her all she wants,while also incraesing not too fast. My bitch,once, was a rail after she gave birth.I was shocked. Give her what she wants. Keep up the exercise. I would increase the food if she will take it as much as she will eat.

Mysti, I concur with Gsdlvr2. You don't want the bitch to put on a lot of body fat, but as the puppies increase in size and demand more nourishment as the internal development progresses, she will need to progressively eat a bit more. I may add that she also needs to stay in excellent condition, although no severe exercises. Do not be surprised if her appetite drops considerably in the two (2) or three (3) days preceeding the whelp. Once she is making milk, she needs to continue larger rations as well. How much? I can't quantify. It depends on the number of mouths to feed, and of course those mouths need much more as they grow. The physical appearance of the bitch is perhaps the best indicator of sufficient nutrition. That, and full puppy bellys was always my guide. Bob-O
