Ramping up for NASS, I found myself thinking about some of the cool people I've met at dog shows and thought it'd be fun for us to share who we've met over the years.  Thinking back, a couple of the coolest people I remember meeting and taking an instant liking to had to be Janis Novak and her husband Dennis; she just had a way about her.

Who comes to mind for you?

There have been the best experiences and the terrible. My most memorable was a working line lady I chatted with at the pool last show. She is an inspiration and warm wonderful person with a great amount to share. I have met other people and laughed with them but never introduced ourselves and this is not a bad thing when you are crawling and hiding from your mommas boy dog lol To this day many people I met make me smile and makes me happy looking forward to my next show.

As for people I met that I thought I knew from online. Some have been wonderful and some not so much. When you just bump into someone meet and chat you can be less gaurded and enjoy the experience. I have found that if you arrange to meet people that you have had a contact with be careful. Guard yourself but give them a chance. Do not let the people that abused your good will and friendliness to color your ability to meet new friends. I have never been very social. I was not raised around many people growing up. I do not have social graces and I am an extremely shy person. I have had bad experiences from people I have met and good ones. They have taught me to be a stronger person and more outspoken. Perhaps at times to outspoken which I have been working on moderating. The few you find that are a heart of gold and fun are worth the nuts in the pile. Go for it and just have fun.

I guess the most interesting person I met at an SV show was Fred Lanting. At an AKC show, Rod Stewart, who was showing Chinese Crested (I think).

Dude, does you wife show GSD's in agility?

by Duderino on 11 October 2011 - 20:10

No, Chinese Cresteds.  A lot of people say she looks like Rod Stewart,,,,,,,but I don't know.

by Blitzen on 11 October 2011 - 21:10

LOL, Stewart did look like his dogs. I was wondering if that's what attracted him to that breed. Does you wife really show cresteds?
