Can someone please advise which part of the dogs neck should be measured for the fitting of a prong collar.

The prong should go tight at the top of the neck, just under the ears. I believe they come in one size per-thickness or link size like this: - link size 3.2mm, collar size 23in (Med prong) - link size 4.0mm, collar size 26in (Large prong) prong collar size is approximate (you dont really need an exact measurment), you can add and subtract links to adjust the size and if you get a "herm springer quick release" type (my favorite) you can also make very small size adjustments by which link you attach the quick release to. I prefer the smaller link size, my hard headed dog responds better to it with softer corrections. I usually have to remove links (23in is more than enough for most dogs when put in the right spot), but you can always order more links for $1-$2 just in case.

You can add or subtract links for this collar for proper fitting, should not be too tight

It should also not be too loose so it slides easily down the neck

Thanks for the info, as I live in the UK I would be purchasing the collar from Germany, it would therefore be a Sprenger collar. Have you any experience with this make of collar?? Just looking for some feed back really.

Highly respected manufacturer and very well made. You can really tell the difference between the crappy pet store brand and Herm Sprenger equipment.

"The prong should go tight at the top of the neck, just under the ears" You'll get the quickest result there, but be aware that your dog will immediately know when it's not on, if fitted like this.

I like the Sprenger prong mainly because it has a snap closure. It is a lot easier to put on the dog than those that need to be closed using a link.

There is also a samller link which is even more effective.. I use the medium for trackign and sometime sprotections (fit it loosley like the Belgians do) but for obedience we have a small link and they should fit snugly more to the top of the neck behind the ears

Apologize for all my typos, my fingers and my brain are clearly NOT in sync!!
