I have a five week old pup who two days ago got a high fever of 104 for a day. she was given herbs on Sunday and rehydrated three times. On Monday taken to vet who put her on clavomox and given medicam for pain as she was in great pain. On Monday her legs started to swell. Two one in front one in hind. The hind was very big. Now Tues. she did some eating but not much. Her rear leg is swelling still more. Appears to have a swelling in her jaw region as now exhibits pain there. I can hear her jaws clench when she eats. Yesterday no noise. Has anyone experienced anything like this? The vet says it is osteo dystrophy?

Fleet, if you google osteodystrophy + dogs you will get a lot of hits and a lot of information on this disease.

could be like my pup & have Meningitis, pain around the jaw, could be coming from the neck/head region. Get tests done quickly & ask to see a nurologist. My vet thought my pup had HD but the leg probs ended up being related to everything else. It's worth considering.

How is that puppy doing, Lily?

Hi! I dont know much about this system having just started to go to it. I am the ownere of the sick pup. Can I give my e mail so I can get more direct response. do you just sit and wait all day to see how the question gets answered? The pup is about the same. Although I think back leg is worse again. They did not do bloodwork? Just looked at her. She is large for her age. The other three in the litter are still fine they are getting way larger. I am starting to wean them quickly incase it is a problem with the mom but she had one other litter and had equally large pups so I think it is not but don't know what to do.. Her mouth is getting worse. She licks a bit at pablum but otherwise nothing. NO interest in water anymore she did drink that on Monday. Will not try now. I am giving about 9cc. every two hours by syringe as well as 6 to 9 of the pablum. A couple of fingers of canned food on the roof of her mouth and some of the paste which is high energy.? Janice,
Ask about septisemia or septicemia can't remember how to spell it, sorry. But this sure sounds like the symptoms !! a blood poisioning if you will. most of time settles as swelling and pain in the limbs, not typically all of them but sometimes all. Anyway hun good luck and I feel so badly for you and your puppy. Wish you the best.
