I'm looking at a litter that is linebred on Sven vom Grafental and I did a little research on him. I then came across Boban von grauen Monstab.
The common consensus seems to be that this will either produce GREAT working dogs, or on the reverse, dogs with severe temperament/hip issues (I'm not entirely worried about the hips - both of this litters parents OFA'd good)
A lot of people seem to suggest staying away from the breeding entirely, but I'm not sure that having Sven in the pedigree will throw off the entire balance of this litter. The litter I'm looking at is also linebred on the E litter out of Sven/Sindy.
Does anyone have PERSONAL experience with these dogs? I'm sure there are lots of folks out there who have experiences with a friends' friends' friend who has a Sven or Boban dog, but I'd like first person view on these dogs, no hearsay or rumors please :)
Thank you

Or, do your own experiment if you're the type who needs to touch the sun to believe it's hot. Get one.

I talked to a few dog people BEFORE getting a pup and still went ahead and got a puppy with Sven/Sindy (grandparents) in their pedigree. He's a great little import; outgoing, fearless, confident. I've heard about the hip problems, but both of my pups parents also OFA'd good. I also have a hip guarantee so.........
I wanted a serious, personal protection dog and I think that's what I got.

It's all out there for the finding. I don't feel like posting the same thing a hundred times because someone who needs/wants to know it is too lazy to look for it. Why should I? I already know what I want/need to know about these dogs. You're the one with the questions, so to me, it makes sense that you be the one to look for answers. God helps those who help themselves. LOL . I don't feel sorry for people who don't research. I do feel sorry for the inexperienced that the breeders prey on and pawn these dogs off on. Rest assured, they're not ending up in experienced homes because experienced homes don't have the time or patience for that kind of crap. Plus, experienced people run in small circles and word gets around. If you make sure to put them with people who know no better, you run a greater chance of pulling it off for a long time. After all, they're soooo pretty! <gag>

If they're anything like me, they probably realized that it didn't look like a lot of people had REAL, PERSONAL experiences -- rather hearsay and rumors -- so I agree with mhr that they should be asking people specifically for run-ins of their own.
All I can say is I'm happy with my puppy. And Chaz is right, you can have the greatest genetics and bloodlines, and it really is still a crapshoot. Good luck :)

If it was down previously, it will likely descend. If it wasn't really down before he left Germany, well... it's not impossible that it will still descend, but I'd say the odds aren't in favor.

Point of clarification, the bad stories concern ONLY Sven/Sindy Schaferliesel breeding not Sven alone. There are many, many Sven descendents-I have one of them. He was a popular stud. There is a much smaller popullation from Sven/Sindy.
Here is the previous thread-the line breeding on the E litter and a bit about Boban.
