I have read post about Ursus free males and females for sale, Is there a reason for this, are future breedings trying to produce a different type of dog?

The only reason Ursus is occasionally (and more recently, much more often) being veered away from, for me personally, is that there seems to be so much of him in every pedigree, and the dogs are being linebred on him over and over. He does produce nice type, and his line is a proven VA producing line, but just for the good of the breed, there need to be some outcrosses occasionally. I have one right now, due end of October with NO Ursus, and another one later linebred 3-4 on Ursus.
It's not a dislike for the dog, it's just trying to keep other blood alive. :)
Good question!

I agree with Von Fel assesment. I have Imported some of his grandsohns out of Fritz Farbenspiel and they both do very well at shows and their working abilities. Their owners are very happy with them ED and HD okay. URSUS is a very handsome male hunde.

With excessive use we can end up with a bottleneck in the breed as has happened in the past. With an entire generation (or more) based on one dog breeding choices become somewhat limited. While Ursus brought new excellence to heads, bone, substance, and power, it has been well shown that top Ursus projeny produce best when combined with other lines that bring their own strengths to the breeding.
