Well detecting the whistle isn't the problem your guys will let you know when it goes off.  Is it kids doing it or adults that might have a bearing on your options. If you want to be nice about it go to the boating section and get a air horn, I'm sure it's not always at a convienent time for you that they sound the dog whistle, so wait until about 2 am and go around their house blowing the air horn.  That's the nicest I got, my solution would be to have a visit and tell them exactly where I was going to shove the whistle if it continued.

Itsgsd...sorry to hear that....neighbors disputes are never easy....have you tried talking to them regarding the issue?

Let them know if they keep it up, you will move and rent your house out to some low life who will come home at 2 am. in his low rider with music that will rock their world..:)

How about buying the same type of whistle and getting your dogs used to it.
Train for a different response than barking or just desensitize them to the sound.

If your neighbors are seniors are you sure it's a dog whistle? I had an issue like yours & was ready to have it out with my neighbor, but turn out it was him adjusting his hearing aid.
I offered to help him & it ended after that. Also make try giving your dogs something to do that's positive every time they alert to the noise, like finding treats or playing fetch...
If it continues I would call animal control / police on your neighbor.

Thanks for the replies. It is my neighbors older son (28 yrs old). It was done out of spite so the coller would shock my dog. I actually saw him do it. I have tried to talk to them, they are liars and have been harrasing me since I moved in.I rent this place.  Last year I had the police out as they had sprayed my dogs through my fence with mace. There is a report and Animal Control has  a report and a charge of animal cruelity on them. Sometimes you can't fix stupid but I sure am not going to tolerate it either.

You can ALWAYS fix stupid. It's called DOCUMENTATION. Start keeping records. Conversations; good and bad. He/they might have smartened up a bit but video cameras, recordings. Use them to your advantage. Just the simple act of you and a friend having a conversation with him (2nd person/witness) you probably have to draw/trick him/them into it. Be smart.

If things are already documented then a pattern has been established and keep on it. I would check with some geeks at Radio Shack and maybe there is something that can register/track that pitch of the whistle to prove it's coming from the neighbors??
