hi does anybody have any advice for recurent ear infections ear gets really dirty with wax been to vets lots last time was given canural has cleared it but a month later its coming back any advice would be appreciated just keeps flaring up after a month or so.

Yes! ZYMOX! This works wonders for dogs who get recurrent infections and yeast. Much cheaper than the vet too and avoids hematoma of the ear from head shaking that can cause a burst blood vessel:

Anne: years ago I had a bitch that had the same problem, I took her to several vets until I found the vet I use now. Turned out she was allergic to corn. When he first said it I thought he was nuts I got antibiotics and he gave me a perscription food with no corn it was Purina EN. I thought he was nuts but was willing to go with it. One Friday I forgot to pick up food before the office closed so over the weekend I gave her the kibble my other gsd was on by Mon we had another ear infection. I don't know that this is the problem but I battled the infections for a yr, same symptoms you described almost exactly after the food switch she never got another one.

Yes, allergies to corn and wheat are common causes of skin and ear problems. I would hope no one on here ever feeds dog foods containing corn or wheat.

hi donnerstorm i feed him royal canin junior active. the last time i was at the vet she said if it happened again she would check for allergies but ithought she was nuts but now youve said it. have checked the bag and cant find the ingredients on it. genuine royal canin bag

Royal canine was what mine was on originally, the head plant is in my town there's corn in it. When I researched it the presenting complaint for alot of gsds with Allergies is chronic ear infections with the dirty "black" looking wax. There are several foods out there with no corn I'm not sure what they are I used purina EN like I said but I'm sure there is somebody else on here that knows of quite a few of them. Those ear infections are horrible hope he gets to feeling better. The ingredients have to be listed somewhere on the bag I would think sometimes just hard to find.

AnneH, your food incredients are as follows:

Composition
Dehydrated poultry meat, rice, animal fats, vegetable protein isolate*,
maize, hydrolysed animal proteins, maize gluten, beet pulp, vegetable
fibres, minerals, soya oil, fish oil, fructo-oligo-saccharides, psyllium husks
and seeds, hydrolysed yeast (source of mannan-oligo-saccharides),
hydrolysed crustaceans (source of glucosamine), marigold extract
(source of lutein), hydrolysed cartilage (source of chondroitin).
* L.I.P.: protein selected for its very high assimilation.

MAIZE is corn and MAIZE GLUTEN is corn

yes found ingredients hydrolysed yeast.could that cause allergie.
