This may have already been posted here and if I missed it and this is rehashing old stuff, I'm sorry, but....... I was cruising around the Internet last night and saw a picture of a horrific dog fight at the recent New England Regionals involving two females handled by children. What is disturbing in a picture that was attached is that there was a blond woman who owned the dogs standing by, apparently just watching the whole thing go on. I guess the question is who is responsible for monitoring such behavior of owners at shows like these and what are the consequenses for your actions when you put children at risk as this woman apparently did.

Exhibitors are responsible for their dogs. If their dogs are not controlled, presented in heat, or otherwise cause a disruption or public hazzard they may be asked to remove their dogs by the judge, show coordinator or an official of the hosting club.

I do not believe that the dogs were handled by children. They were both in full heat and had been fence fighting the previous days at her kennel. it was not a good idea to put them in the ring.

What is the link to the picture? Who is the owner of the 2 females in question?

I've seen this photo and if you think that's a dog fight, you must never have seen 2 bitches really have at each other LOL.

Blitzen you are absolutely correct, I was at ringside, pictures can be misleading. This "horrific dogfight" was no more that two half sisters showing each other a little attitude. There wasn't a mark on either of the dogs or "the children". The jusdge was unphased, the class continued and the dogs finished one in front of the other without so much as another look at each other. One of the "children" was a 17 year old experienced dog handler who works in a vet office and helps train working dogs with her police officer father. She stepped into the ring to help when one of the bitches got away in the off leash phase. Wagonmaster (aka Elizabeth) has been trying to cause trouble by posting this picture on various sites doing all of us a disservice. THIS WAS NOT A DOGFIGHT. I was present at Eastconn in June 05 WDA Regional when two bitches got away in the offleash and really went at each other, leaving the ring going into the crowd. This fight resulted in blood and stitches. It was frightening. Posting misleading pictures and false information is damaging to our sport. I would have to question the motives of the person (people) posting this misinformation.

Looks like a personal issue to me.

gsd39mr, Please do not be so ignorant as to aka me. I am NOT Elizabeth, whoever she is. You have a lot of gaul assuming who I am. I have done NOTHING but to ask a question on this board, AND when asked to show the link to the picture, you notice that I DID NOT respond knowing that would serve no useful purpose. Call it what you will, but upon my further investigation. These two dogs were, in fact, in heat, and they WERE being shown by youngsters. They DID get into a FIGHT while the owner stood by and watched. These are the facts. Like them or not. You also give far too much credit to the young people handling the dogs that were getting into it. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. First, look at the expression on their faces. It is one of complete panic. Secondly, they were trying to break up the FIGHT by grabbing the dogs up around the neck area. ANYONE who knows ANYTHING about handling dogs knows that this will get you hurt in a hurry. No matter how much that dog knows you or loves you, when it is in a fight, it will turn on you if you are up around the head area. Grab the dog by the hind legs and pull like hell. Wise up, stop assuming, and stop protecting people who make bad dog judgements.

Was anyone injured in all of this? Geez. Sounds very personal to me too. One picture? But the whole picture? Very defensive Wagonmaster. Not my battle but what the hell has it to do with GSDs? Take it up with the clubs.

by wagonmaster on 01 October 2006 - 21:10

Never meant to be defensive or personal at all. I just don't like people assuming that I am someone that I am not. Nor do not have a personal ax to grind. IT started out as an innocent enough observation. Now I will apologize for taking this boards time with it and drop it. Simple enough.
