hi folks, I have a german shepherd who's going to be 3 yrs old this november. I dont have his pedigree papers but have got him registered with the KCI (kennel club of india). Can I still get him mated with a suitable bitch? what are the things I shud keep in mind? Are there any females registered on this board who are just registered with the kennel club like my dog? Thanks Prashant

If you dont' have his pedigree, there fore not knowing who is parents or grandparents or great grand parents are, How in the heck do you think you'll find a dog to breed him to ? You won't know if the other dog is a full sister or not ? Wow, I have to say if your serious about wanting to breed dogs you need much much further education. Please don't breed that dog until you get his full pedigree and "Proper" registrations.

hey, i understand that w'out the pedigree info, ppl who have a pedigreed dog would not b willing to mate it. however, there r other ppl who, if the dog is worth mating with, wud want to get their females mated. I wont say that this is good for the enhancement or improvement of the breed, but that was a rude reply from your end. I totaly agree with u on the point that ppl shud mate two dogs who are of good bloodlines & have proven themselves in the various aspects required. thanks but no thanks for ur reply

prasac, It was NOT RUDE !!!! Your being rude and stupid if your gonna breed a dog with no papers to another stupid dog with no papers so that the puppies can all end up crippled, with debilitating health issues, and eventually get dumped in a shelter somewhere if they're lucky, if they don't get skinned after being cut in the groin area so they can bleed out first !!! Don't start with me I'm One of the ones who gets to clean up messes like your gonna make !!!!!!!

i can understand whatever u want to say & i agree with ur viewpoint, but i dint like the way u replied to my question. u cud have advised in a proper way instead on coming onto me as if i was asking for something really impossible! it was just an advise i was looking for!!!

prasac, I appologize if that earlier post came off rude, that was not the intention. Advise is what your looking for, well Honestly I would say do alot of homework on the "style" of GSD you wish to produce, come up with a strong plan that will better the breed, come up with a super guarantee and contract, And microchip your pups so that if they do end up in a shelter somewhere you will be notified, I put myself on the microchip as the 2nd contact for this reason. Get into and do as much GSD Rescue as possible, It's important that if we are going to contribute to a population that we also be involved in the rescue of that population as well. But definately go out and get Pedigreed dogs, don't take a chance of breeding inferior dogs if you do then you are truly adding to the "problem" and not offering any type of solution at all. Hope that helps and hope you'll accept my appologies. Right now though Please please don't look for a dog to breed your dog, He's a nice dog I am certain of that the way you speak of him, BUT... No papers = NO BREEDING It's just not an acceptable practice anymore and very much frowned upon. I wish you luck in finding the path right for you, and the Breed.

I agree that you should not breed a dog without proper registrations. But I have dogs that are papered to the hilt and have debilitating health issues!

Janette, Good Point, but knowing this you would certainly not breed one of these dogs to it's full sister/brother would you ? and you would not do so because you would know if they are related because they are registered. No papers you know nothing other than temperament and immediate health, You know nothing of litter mates, nothing of parents, and therefore ABSOLUTELY COULD NOT better the breed in any way shape or form by breeding an un registered dog you know absolutely nothing about to another un registered dog you know even less than nothing about. I was not trying to say that only dogs with out papers have health issues the point was not pairing these issues and knowing if you are can only come with registration. I had a lady come to the shelter and say she wanted to adopt a female boxer from us, we told her she was not yet available that we were having her spayed soon and then she would be, she replied with "NO I have a male at home and want to breed them, I can sell those pups for 100.00" I went through the roof, I asked her "why would breed a dog from a shelter you don't know if she is his full sister" She said yes I know, (we are in Oregon) I got my male from Idaho so there's no way. I screamed at her "you Moron I shipped a male GSD from North Dakota and guess what, he's related to one of our females" The only way I know this is because I have his papers otherwise I would have never known hhh ? This dizzy crack head didn't get it and I sent her packing. Stupidity is something I have no tolerance for, and not saying that this guy/gal is stupid, just saying he/she needs to further educate him/herself as to not make big mistakes, THAT HE/SHE WILL NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR, BUT PUPPIES WILL !!!!

I totally agree with your view point & concern regarding the betterment of the breed. I understand what you are trying to bring to the notice of other people through this board, that we all need to put good thought to it before breeding two dogs & need to ensure that they are in good hands as well. The feeling is same here EchoMeadows! thanks

prasac, I'm glad to hear it ! I sure hope you continue to look into aquiring some great dogs, do some homework, as it's alot of hard work being a responsible breeder. and continue with your venture, Don't take me the wrong way, I would never discourage someone who loves the breed from starting a breeding program of they're own, So long as it's DONE RIGHT. don't go into it thinking your gonna make any money, really it's the most financial draining venture we have ever embarked on, But we love our dogs, we do our best to better the breed, we Rescue, and we interview every single potential buyer. If you have the opportunity the best thing you could do is see if you could volunteer some time with a local breeder, listen and learn, and ask lots and lots of questions. If you spend 3 to 6 months with a good breeder you will see the amount of knowledge needed and the amount of work and cost that goes into all of this, These are things you need to look into if your considering being a responsible breeder, and finally I wish you all the success in the world friend. Mitch
