Also what would u guys recomend giving a pup who is 6 months old for pano he was just diagnosed by xray at our vet but my vet is full of crap on feeding i know a lower protein content food helps and vitamin E but i dont know where the best place to get the E or way to get it for him or if im even right so i figured ide add that in here the poor boy has bin just laying on the floor crying holding his leg up at me so i took him to the vet i first thought he might have had a compression fracture in his leg as he feels he is mr man and wants to jump every fence we put him in if im on the other side so i have given up and take him everywhere or hes in his crate.
i just didnt know if you have any suggestions. he also is Gigantic in my eyes for his age which is why he got pano XD not supriseing hes almost 70 lbs at 6 months and about 24 inches at the shoulder he is very slender so weight i dont think is a issue
this was almost 2 months ago

what were you feeding?
taste of the wild - serria formula has 25% if you like a non-grain kibble
royal canin - gsd formula has 24% if grains are not an issue
if you want to go lower, then add some stamed rice or baked sweet potato
crate rest for several weeks and then a slow climb back to full activity.
i'm sure the feed raw folks also have some advice if you wish to go that route.

To be honest in his case he is going to have to grow out of it. You can do half raw, half kibble, vit E and fish oil twice a week, some glucosamine but he is a BIG boy, I was expecting it with him. I was acttualy amazed he held on so long without it.

yep haha he just started limping and if he hadent bin jumping soo much i would have just bin meh pano. hes about 3 inches shorter than my white shepherd u saw hes a tank XD just like human grade vit E? and i probably wont have him when you get up here a lady wants him she has a large ranch up here so i think that would be a good home for him.

Yep, slow down growth rate by lowering protein; no more jumping, keep him on leash if he won't quit or he may injure himself; and crate rest. At this point I don't see that ANY supplements will help. Maybe a buffered baby aspirin at night so he can sleep?? Only try that, if it does not work do not continue. He has to outgrow this and sometimes it takes a while; did your vet recommend anything?

Generic remadyl is the best solution...two weeks at a time....Crate him? not....... he isn't going to be moving around a tone if he has pano anyway........Take this time to learn focus - keep him busy with exercises that don't involve alot of movement....Pano can last up to almost two years old......I know......my boy had it really bad........ he is over it - but at times he could hardly walk...........worse case ever........
Aspirin isn't good - especially since at the time that get pano they are teething -------blood thinner =not good at this point.......
Lowering the protein they say helps - but I am not so sure - but the anti-inflamitory is the best thing you can do for him.........
there are those that say the remadyl isn't good - but - I swear by it..........do yourself and you pup a favor - buy a 3 month supply - when you see the pano flare up - start it - and end it in two weeks.........it is worth it.....

yea the vet gave my remadyl i have to be careful crateing him as he decided he is going to chew on the crate door and has damaged his k9s on it hes not wanting to be very active currently and has layed on my bed all day i put him on it because its memory foam and he actuly slept on it insted of not being able to get comfortable. and he is 6 months and totaly done with teething he has had his adult teeth for a little wile now. i know pano can last 1 week to once their growth plates finish im hopeing it is closer to the shorter date as i hate seeing him miserable but hes def about 80% less active in the past 2 days as he has bin in the past month so hes feelin it

Natural vitamin C with citrus bioflavonoids will help reduce the bout's length. C is a natural anti-inflammatory and will support the immune system. Start with a dose of 500mg and over a weeks time up it to 1000 or 2000 split between meals. IF the pup isn't tolerating 2000(runny poo is a clue) then back off and slowly up the daily dosage. http://www.vitabase.com/supplements/allergy-immune/vitabase-citrus-bioflavonoid.aspx
You can get the C- bio's at a health food store ~Ester C has it as well, but not recommended for young pups as it has extra calcium.
I feel that Pano is usually genetic due to the dogs structure, though diet does play a role in it. I fed raw and my pup still had a couple of bouts(he was on the large end of the growth spectrum) My female was also bigger and had several bouts, though after transitioning to raw they were not as long or severe as they were on kibble.
I let my dogs self limit their exercise, the rimadyl has too many side effects for my liking.

I like Metacam for a NSAID better than Rimadyl.
