My new girl Bella Fricka von Kirschental arrived in Boston from Frankfurt on June 1 the very day tornadoes hit Massachusetts. She is an absolute joy and incredibly smart, learns commands after 2 or 3 tries no problem. She started day care 2 days ago and is already the hit of the place, mingling with many different breeds and ages.
I was wondering what the opinion of the experienced folks here is as to the effects of playing with packs of dogs all day on her training, is there any evidence to suggest it might "erase or diminish" things I'm teaching her?
If this is a dumb question I apologize!
Thanks
Frogman

I think keeping her kenneled all day would be a bigger problem. The more she is able to socialize and exert her energy... the better she would be in training I imagine. But that's my opinion.

If your goal is to have a "pet" that is either dog submissive or dog aggressive, you're doing the right thing. If your goal is to have a dog that is more comfortable with other dogs instead of you, you're doing the right thing. If your goal is to get your dog sick before it has it's full complement of vaccines, you're doing the right thing. Why don't you ask the Kirschental kennel what they think, my guess is they'll hang up on you.

BTW, if my purpose for having a "working" dog was doing work, I would NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, put the dog in day care. Did I mention NEVER?

I wouldn't even put a pet dog in day care for the same reason I think dog parks are a stupid idea.

I have to agree with the last 3 post,s.

Frogman,
Sounds like you got a nice pup, good luck. I also agree with Bob, Keith and Dudester. I wouldn't put a dog that I wanted to work in daycare.

My pups are home in indoor kennels 5 foot by 14 foot each in there own and when I get home they are more then ready to focus all there attention on me. I can,t imagine allowing someone else socializing my dogs for me...

My dogs are kenneled during the day.
When I get home each comes out for individual play/train time and I am their favorite toy/playmate period, not another dog. It makes training 100% easier when their entire focus is to me as their source of play, engagement rather than wanting to run off after another dog.

I agree with the other posters comments. I would also not adivse putting a "working dog" in that type of situation. Depends on the the goals you have for your dog. I am glad you are enjoying your new dog and best of luck.
