Positioning or laxity or injury?
What do you think this 18 month female will grade out as?

Thank you for your comments..........

Am no expert, but that one hip (I think the dogs left.... to the right of my screen) doesn't look right.
I do like the nice clear picture though... I dunno... good luck on your rating!

JMHO I think the legs have been over rotated the patellas are not central.

I don't like the positioning. Maybe they let off tension on that side. I would make them do it again.

Repositioning wont do anything. The L hip socket is shallow formed, most likely genetic. The femoral head itself looks good to me and both sit as deep as they can. Not sure how OFA will rate it. The girl might never show any symptoms, but is more prone to develop athritis in that hip (not saying that she will though).

I do not think the SV would accept that positioning, the femurs must be parallel, having said that the left hip particularly does not look perfect.

IMO, positioning is really not bad at all. I have seen BAD positioning get accepted by OFA.
As to the rating.... that is hard. The left femoral head has an odd pinched configuration, and there does appear to be some re-modeling. I will go out on a limb and say moderate, but perhaps only mild.

Moderate. Sorry for this; I can't tell if it was injury or not; I would say no injury just a lousy femur head and socket fitting. So sorry. Nan

Your xrays look a tad oblique to the left (see the spacing at the pelvis there is about 1/2" on the left and 1/4" on the right which could indicate one leg was rotated inward more than the other).. . Additionally, the knees are rather tight to the center rather than straight up and down. I do believe positioning is important. I am a vet tech and take OFA radiographs all the time... and I would not have submitted these (personally or for a client).... If there is over flexion it may may a difference how the femoral head is positioned into the cranial margin. Was the dog sedated? Is the dog in heat?
