Hi

In February I purchased a GSD from a local breeder and in the bill of sale it stated his AKC registration papers would be supplied at a later date.  In the paperwork it has all the info about my dog and the sire and dam with their AKC registration numbers.

In April after leaving 3 messages for the breeder, she told me it would be a few more weeks.  Now I have left 2 messages for her and have not heard anything back.  I have now had the dog for 6 months and am at the point that I don't think I will ever get his papers.  We are not planning on breeding/showing.  He is a family companion, but I want what I paid for, what was advertised.

If she does not provide what I was promised, is there any real recourse other then small claims court?

Thank you
Candice

In my experiences- with my frist GSD-both his parents were AKC and I got the registration papers the day I picked the pup up. That breeder had registered the entire litter first hand and just had to send in the number of "pups born" to actually get the puppy papers and then that breeder delivered the papers when he sent the pups home at 6-8 weeks of age. I'm thinking you should be dealing with this type situation since you state both the pups parents were already AKC reigstered.

Now on my current dog- his sire was still in Germany and his dam was an import and she had to be DNA tested and then the papers were issued for the litter. I did have "papers" on him by 6 months of age though. So it sounds as if you're dealing with a breeder that is dragging their feet or has no intentions of supplying what you bought. the small claims court issue all depends on the amount paid for the dog and it could definitely cost the breeder in the long run if you really persue it.

Good luck.

Call AKC and ask for their help.  I know that they have been known to contact the breeder on occassion.

So she actually texted me later last night, the most recent message I had left her had been yesterday afternoon, and said she had forget all about me and is going to send them out promptly. I really hope she does because I would like to add another pup next year and wanted to go back to her because of how happy we are with our dog. Fingers crossed!

Breeders are people too! Maybe she did just forget and this will have a happy ending. Keep us posted.

Hi i had the same problem with the breeder of my Canadian Import what a nightmare she was in the end i had to get the CKC to   send me his pedigree  also fax my regestration  from Canada to the UK KC so don't ever buy a dog from Maria Fabrik Whispawillow  German Shepherds  unless you want a whole lot of hassel.

if it's an import breeding, it may very well take time to get the papers. if it's just anothe POS breeder, then you should have researched it a little better. good luck.

It took my breeder a long time to get the paperwork back from AKC - not her fault - got the papers from her when my pup was 6 months old. I guess if you really wanted to, you could contact AKC yourself??? I didn't so I don't know if they will speak with you. Yes, you do want them to ensure your name is on the paperwork. Mine is a family companion also but the papers were important to me.

I am going to wait until next Monday before I call her again.  If she still hasn't sent them like she said she would, I am going to pick them up.  She lives less then 10 mins from me.
I did research her and her dogs.  I have never found one complaint about her or any of her dogs.  There were quite a few people/pups I passed on before I found her.

If she lives less than ten minutes away, then why are you having her mail the papers that could "get lost in the mail" (or any other excuse.)  Why not just offer to meet her somewhere under the disguise of "I wanted to show you how big so-and-so has grown!"
