Now I know I'm getting old and granted I need glasses BUT
Saw this ad on the db offering two BLACK puppies for sale
http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/classifieds/122059.html
kennel web site w/ same pciture
http://www.hamundhausgermanshepherds.com/puppies-for-sale.html
I realize that colors can be off in a photo BUT look at the eye rims on these pups. To me there is no doubt I am looking at two livers. Agree or disagree?
Interestingly in ALL the other photos on their website the colors are clear and definite - the blacks portions are black and the tan are tan.
Anybody familiar with these lines and know if the carry livers? Just curious.

I think it's the picture in honesty.

They look like liver to me. The colours in the photo (persons hands etc) don't look that 'off'. Weird.

I'm with Ambii , colours out on picture, pretty sure they are black. Sometimes I take pictures that come out like that , just poor photography.

Possible livers to me as I agree the eye rims and the nose are off and they remind me of chessie pups

They are black puppies, livers are marked like black and tans only the black is liver and noses are pink

No, not black, but deep liver. Look at eye rims, noses, fur which are all the same color. Did not look at the hand. Think the ribbon is a correct color.
When one breeds two recessives together, that would allow any more recessive color to possibly express itself.
Have looked at each pic. Will go back and re-look.
When I have seen blues, I had to sometimes look a second time, as the fur may look just dusty.
I think I have seen livers before, but they were a light color of liver. These seem a really deep color. Maybe coming out of a Black to Black breeding, that would cause them to be a deeper color, but that is not what I would guess if I were a betting person. I would think that a liver coming out of two deeply colored dogs would tend to throw a deeper liver than visa versa.
There was a person in the States many years ago who did an experiment. She, Maureen Yantaz [sp?], bred blk to blk to blk for many generations. The blk became dull and then suddenly the blk became exceedinly blk. Just a thought about blks.
Two other possibilities: 1) that these are really reddish dogs without a saddle but with red noses and eye lids. 2) this is a "NEW" color and Not a liver.
The parents come from Hungary. Who knows what happened in the past especially during the war times there. Note that these dogs are not, if I remember correctly, coming out of top top lines where one would know something about what the parents came out of. Chesapeake Bay Retrievers have that deep reddish color.
At this time, I do not think it is the camera, film, ad that makes this color. Look at the format of the two ads, they are not professionally done, in my opinion. The wording is confusing, the setup is confusing. Therefore, the owner of the ad may not know anything really about GSDs.
I am betting liver or a new color. But no money on the table, as I do not like to lose.

Have gone back more than once to the pictures. The human skin is light, yes, but the color of the pups is so Not black. Not just faded, just a different color. Oh well, so what.
