Can anyone explain why the IPO was "invented" when we already had schH for breed testing?  I notice that in other breeds. ie Doberman, IPO titles seem to be the "thing".  Does it have anything to do with the dumbing down of the breeds today or political correctness?

IPO is the international version of the sport known in Germany as Schutzhund.  Schutzhund is controlled by the SV which is a German Shepherd only organization in Germany.  The sport for "other" breeds in Germany is commonly known as VPG which is practiced by members of the DVG.  IPO is practiced by countries whose kennel clubs are members of the FCI, an all breed organization and the world parent kennel club.  Actually, Schutzhund changed their rules several years ago to almost mirror IPO, smaller tracking articles, no on leash obedience in SchHI, both hurdle and climbing wall retrieves in SchHI, shorter long bites for SchHI and SchHII.  Not sure about the 4 blind search for IPOII but now the only marked difference is a "silent" send on the long bites for IPO, no "step out of the blind, get off my field" stuff.

Actually the "silent" send on the long bite has been in BOTH rules for 4 years now...... Also starting Jan 1, 2012 it all becomes IPO.....

iUnknown...I heard that as well.  It will all become IPO and there will no longer be a Sch title, I just couldn't find confirmation on that.

What are the good and negatives about that?

It is confirmed... The new rules were approved by the FCI general board. I have a copy of the rules that were submitted for approval but heard there was some "slight modifications" done at the meeting.

Pros and Cons...the BH is much easier. (con IMO)

The rest looks like minor changes but I haven't completely read through everything yet....

What is different with the BH?

I am looking to go for BH this november when my pup turns of age.

You know I am shocked that this hasn't been talked about more.  I take it that no one cares?
Is there a place on the web to see the changes?

by Unknown on 24 May 2011 - 19:05

I don't believe the new rules are published and out offcially yet.....

If you do your BH this November, it will be done under the current set of rules....

For Jan 1. 2012 on... The sit in motion, the handler takes 10-15 steps, takes a basic position (stops) and gives the sit command and then leaves 15 paces
Same for the Down in motion except then the handler continues 30 paces for the recall...

There is going to be a more emphasis on temperment...
