can anyone give me advice . i have a male gsd  and was given an opportunity to buy a female puppy but have noticed in the pedigree a couple of dogs are the same  how far back does this require  to be or is it just not a good idea to have the same dogs in pedigree for breeding  thank you

As a rule, you shouldn't breed any closer than a 2-3 or 3-2 linebreeding, meaning a common ancestor in the third generation in one pedigree and the second in the other.  Search forum topics for "linebreeding" for further clarification.

Having said that, there's a lot more to breeding dogs than just having two of the same breed of opposite sexes and there are already plenty of unwanted dogs in the world.  Is breeding them really a necessity?

I had my hadn at breeding but I worry too much about the offspring, or in this case the one surviving offspring, due to complications at the vet office resulting in a little less than $2000 bill.
