There is a very interesting META-Study about Long Term Health Risks and Benefits of Spaying and Neutering conducted in 2007 that you will find interesting:

How old is he?

It wont change him a bit. His personality and such will still be the same, but he will have to take it easy for a few days.  We had our Poodle neutered when he was about 9 y/o, thinking it would help his marking problem. He didn't change a bit (which was a bit unfortunate, LOL).

hi,

he is almost 8 months old.
its not that he is marking, he still squats when he pees.
im not intending to show him, or breed him.

just i know from personal experience that he will calm down just abit,

i think he is starting to show sign of agreesion to other dogs... especially during walks at night.
i dont want him to grow up looking like a female. :(... his chest is looking nice.

he also weighs 75lbs. so hes going to be a big boy..

wait till he is mature nuter him at 2 years,  you dont have to do it right now.. Don't let a vet put pressure on you either.

I have heard that sometimes dogs go through a phase when they are around that age.... he may grow out of the aggression, if you continue to socialize him well.

I'd agree with Destiny to wait until he is fully matured.

That being said, every dog is different. My last Shepherd was spayed at 9 months (during her first heat actually) and didn't change a bit. Still very territorial, protective, but with great drives. She would have made an awesome Schutzhund dog, I have no doubt about that. Truly fearless. :)

Hi Kaoboy,

Pls refer to leerburg's article on neutering.
http://leerburg.com/pdf/neutering.pdf

Neutering a dog less than 2 years old will affect his working ability and i know that you do schuzhund with your boy so you might want to do it later

i didn't read the articles per other posts. BUT ... there are theories now [ more biological science] that neutering/spaying a dog does affect them ..in short .. hormones have a purpose and altering nature to early in the growth and develpment does have some adverse affects .. there are positives such as the decrease in testicular cancer but there are also negatives too. in addtiton , i have neutered males - they still mark territory , they try to court and mount my females when they come into heat  etc. .. bottom line behaviors can be affected from neutering but that is not always a  given .

ALPHAPUP:

when did you get your males neutered?
and i dont mind in a little drive drop.. not at all.
i only do the sport just to have fun with my puppy, he likes it, and it creates a bond.
im not planning to breed him or anything. if he gets titles GREAT.

but at the end of the day. i want a dog that i dont have to worry about when females are in heat 5 miles away. and that it wont run away when we go to the beach and such, i know its mostly training. and his recall is really good.. just aways a thought in the back of my head..

i just dont want him to not develop before i get him neutered.
has anyone got there male neutered around my age of the puppy?
