hello just had a question would you consider a normal stable dog that could go into defense drive by just an certain threatening eye stare to have a low defense threshold? Or would this type of eye stare get just about any dog that had defense drive in them to get defensive?

truthfully, i would be concerned about any dog that did not react to this sort of eye contact.  if it truly is a threatening stare, they should react......if not, i'd figure they were worthless, but then that's just me.

I'd need more info.  I can put a dog into defense with a stare, I do it all the time.  However, an insecure dog may more easily show aggression or a reaction than a strong confident dog.

okay i will ask it like this:

could you put most confidant dogs with high defense drive threshold into defense with one of your stares slam dunc?

without making a noise, without making much movement just starring at the dog.

will most gsds react aggressivly to this type of action?

even equipment oriented  prey monsters?

It depends on several things, age, experience, training....etc.  Now you have added in a high prey, equipment fixated dog.  Some dogs do not view people as a threat.  My SchH3 female is high prey and super confident, you could not do it to her easily.  She simply will not view you as a threat.  She will become defensive at home, but it is a rare event.  Part of it is training for the dog, part of it is the dogs nature.  It depends on the dog and who is doing the staring, distance, location, etc.  Lots of variables.

I'm guessing your dog did this with someone?

Yes, I can do this with most well balanced dogs with little movement, some breathing and staring.

yeah the pp trainer can make my dog want to kill him by staring at her she is quiet, she loves people and has good nerves nice dog good happy in thunder, gun shots, planes, trains, stairs etc.. you name it.

But was more curious in genral about all dogs I guess wanted to know other experience talking about dogs over 15 months of age green so not much training

destiny4u,
Always remember that just staring at a dog will not test its real or true defensiveness.  Humans excrete different cells and more of them when in a heightened mood, which the dog smells.  Also, the dog’s owner will excrete different cells such as fear or excitement, triggering the dog to react.  Any trainer who can stare at any dog will not produce an adequate reaction from the dog.  Or one that means anything.  It just mean "don't stare at me" from the dog.  But that's my opinion.

Proximity of the threat is a key variable.  Is it 30 or 3 feet?  depending on the dog, the reaction will be different.
