ED 1 is a not so good rating with the OFA.

I sure wish all these countries would come together with a single grading system.

Per the table in the bood that Fred Lantning wrote....... I trust him.

A1 is Excellent and most of Good
A2 is the lowest part of Good and most of Fair
A3 is lower part of Fair borderline and the top part of Mild
A4 is most of Mild and part of Moderate
A5 is most of Moderate and all of Severe

So OFA excellent means a great deal, more than A1?

In North America yes - depending where you live. European standards are different, here SV rating of ED 1 is great.

There are three degrees in Schutzhund: Sch I,Sch II, and Sch III.
Very similar degrees are: IPO I,IPO II, and IPO III

There are two Koerklasse ratings: Kkl I =especially recommended for breeding
                                                    Kkl II =recommended for breeding

Then there is the hip and elbow rating.  Also, a dogs name may be prefaced by the letter V ( excellent, conformation rating)
                                                                                                                                   SG (very good conformation rating)
and G ( good conformation rating)
There are many other working titles also which you can find on the internet.
Don't feel ignorant. We all started out where your at. Good luck!!! Richard
