Long time lurker, first time poster. I am going to be receiving a puppy at the airport in Toronto next week. I have imported 3 dogs before at Boston's Logan airport, and boy was it a hassle with CBP. I recently moved to Canada from the United States and I was wondering if anyone who received their puppy at Toronto or any other Canadian airport can share their experiences as they relate to picking up the dog and any Immigration/Customs/Agriculture problems hassles?
Best Regards,
Alan

I have brought one in from Germany and 1 from the us and another coming tomorrow.
Just make sure you have your paperwork in order.
A receipt from the breeder stating purchase price in the currency you paid.
Health certificate from the country of orgin within the 10 previous days showing health status and if old enough rabies vaccine.
They were actually pretty easy to deal with. As long as the health certificate is there and you can show them what you paid they are happy.
You will be charged GST on the purchase price of the dog and as long as customs does not do another inspection of there own that is all you will have to pay for at the airport.
My pup had a inspection done by customs in Houston which added 35 to the cost. But i was advised by the customs at the airport it is a random dog that they screen again.
Of course i would have to be the unlucky one:(
Other than that i was in and out in about 20 mins for each dog:)
Congrats on your new dog and do post pics when you get him!!

make sure breeder has shipped to canada before and knows everything they have to do the breeder a reputable one will take care of all the work you just need to pick it up and bring it through customs
you will have to go to the cargo area where your flight is probablyt lufthanga then u wait for your pup to come in they will give you some release papers you will need to drive then about 20 minutes to the airport customs to get it stamped so you can have the permission for the airline cargo to release your dog.
Just get ready prepare yourself
customs wont bug u much they are not strict with dogs as long as ur dog has its rabies they dont really care about dogs like they do with birds dogs are nothing to do them they have 100s come in each week they just want to see proof of payment and how much u paid
also take money with you there are few fees you will have to pay here and there for your dogs release ran me a few hundred so get ready to have money handy credit cards cash debit cards have EVERYTHING with you because i did not see a bank machine near there.
when u get to release your dog cargo will try to tell you that they will carry your dog out in a fork lift machine and dump it outside i think they do this because they are afraid of the dog or something they wanted to do this with my dog when there was a huge storm outside but i refused be aggressive and tell them NO and that your dog has been shoved and bumped around enough and needs water and food and no more machines to be smashed around its crate in. So take your dog out in cargo and water it in and feed it in or outside you can lift his crate is really light.

I am in Calgary and yes i have to admit they seem normal. ALTHOUGH we will see how they treat an adult as the others i have brought in were pups.
Its funny how ppl see gsds as vicious animals.:) My male may just lick you to death...lol
