Just spent the last 15 mins looking for ( I thought it was my thread, a thread in which I stated I had read or heard conflicting information on timetable/days for mating; Ana's last heat) a thread with the information/timeframe for breeding. So please bear with me and give me your input.
Anastacia just started her heat. Noticed blood spots(lots of drops but light) on Thursday night, so now I am waiting five days? and at that time (I have the male) will put the two together and then will attempt to mate every other day till the male shows no interest? And how many times should I attempt on the days they are together? And say if Ana either "sits" or "lays down" denying Reiker should there be assistance?

my male refuzed to even mount untill she was in estrus we thought he was gay at first XD :\ normaly they will have a time period of heavy blood then a period of lighter and then back to heavy the lighter is the mating period. but the 5 days didnt work for her. she was in the first heavy bleed for 11 days before she was ready. every dog is differnt

Do you have a reason to think one will hurt the other if they're alone together? Your male is a great determination of how ready she is...she, herself, is too. See how she acts. I wouldn't rely on days if you are counting on having pups. I would pay much more attention to consistency/color of blood/fluid, and both of their behavior.
I once just left a couple in a separate part of the house together, let them in and out together, for the better part of a week. Never saw a tie, but ten puppies arrived a couple months later...so I guess they figured it out on their own;-)

And some females will never allow themselves to be dominated. Our very first GSD ever, Grendyl, was never spayed, but would tear up any male that came near her, no matter when. She would flag when you scratched her rump, but she was well known by all who ever met her, that breeding her would be a suicide mission for the male! Don't know why....she was a sweetheart with my kids, tho'! jackie harris

my female was a true bitch to breed. she was as you said kali but my boy was sneeky apparently we where wanting the breeding but she was biteing the poor man so we quit trying to hold her and just kicked their buts outside to maby have her tire down she would let them mount and then turn and bite. well after about 10 mins of them being outside she sounded pissed and they where out in the pouring rain tied lol so i had to muzzle her and stand there with him because she was being a pain. notes just let them out in the gurage not the outdoors in the rain hah lesson learned. we did 4 breedings with successful ties. one every other day in her estrus. but we did have to muzzle her to breed her

Thanks everyone.
Jenni78, no, one will not hurt the other. I think the biggest concern on my part is I just don't want to miss this heat. I have started keeping them together and keeping the pup on a different schedule.
Funny thing though. When I had my Chows, I was in Germany, during the time of the conflict in Libya ? '87, '88? And didn't even realize my female was in heat, (worked like 6 mos. straight with 11 days off) and had two litters to the same day one year apart. For some reason it seems a little different with the Shepherds?
