Hi,smiley

I hope i dont come across sounding silly. But do any of you guys bring your german shepherds to dayschool or daycare? I brought my dog once and it tired her for the rest of the day.How is it working out for you?

What about grooming salons? Bathing and cutting nails. I bathe her and clean her ears and cut nails and all that. Is it a good idea?

I don't take my dogs to doggie daycare, but they both go in for grooming :)  Of course, neither one of them mind being pampered and such, and they're both well-mannered Therapy Dogs so they don't cause any issues.  The groomer we use is at our Veterinarian's office.

My pup is in "daycare" today. It's good fun for him playing with other pups and I had a bunch of appts to take my Mom to today. So far it's been a good experience for him and if I have tons of errands it makes it easier to know he is a good enviroment where there is constant supervision, lots of walks, etc.

I used to be a groomer so my GSDs love to go in and get brushed and bathed usually once or twice a month. They love being pampered! I do the nails myself and would do everything else if I had a blow dryer, bathtub, a table and someplace to do it all but right now we don't!

As for the daycare the only one I have taken was a GSD "rescue" I have Daisy. We were going on vacation and she has issues with coming close to people she knows or doesn't and I wasn't sure what to do with her while we were going to be gone so I started taking her to daycare at a great local kennel. They understood she had issues being handled by the collar and she had a 20 foot radius around people where she would not get any closer than that to you. It took me forever to get her to come to me when I called her, I spoke to her breeder about it and she said "oh thats because I threw things at her untl she finally came to me" great for a dog I was going to do obedience and agility with!! But within a few weeks of being at daycare she came around great and loved going every day for her visit. She started out with the quiet dogs then ended up playing with the rowdy ones after about a week! It was great for her confidence and she is now comfortable around strangers and will come right up to most people! They did a fantastic job of just letting her take her time and overcoming her fear of being close. If its a good daycare it is well worth it!!

We brought our dog to daycare once per week for about 2 months to make sure she was socialized with other dogs. The daycare we go to is great- they put dogs of the same size and age together for supervised play.  It appears to have worked- she gets along great with all dogs. We take her about once per month now just for fun.

My husband cuts her nails- she just lays on her side (she's really happy that he's so close to her).

I take my bitch to the groomers every six weeks or so.
I'm allergic to dogs, so having someone else who can give her a more thorough brushing than I can do, is a huge help.
