very nice dogs.  Someone who is very accomplished in this business once told me to work on getting them to "walk into" the stack on their own.

Jodi,
You are doing super with Topo! Leyla looks wonderful....Brian should be proud!  I am also very happy to co-own Tequila with the Chantos...(super people!)
They should all have a nice future ahead of them....congrats!

Yes Raymond, I would have to agree with you!  I am a very proud owner of a Huerta Hof dog.  Thanks Robin, I couldn't be happier with my boy ;o)

Jacko, walking into the stack on their own is the ideal but will only really work if the dog has the correct structure in the first place.

A and A

the above dog should be able to do it.  You just have to get a feel on the leash and a something to get the dogs attention.    Then Practice Practice Practice.   I was watching a horse trainer the other day talking about how people just think the horse can go from a to z.   The horse he demoed with was 16 and trained all the time.  Dogs are the same way.  Train Train Train.

Their structure is what it is, so they can all walk into the best they have.

Jacko, I think we're on the same page here & your last sentence summed up well what I was trying (& failing) to say - "Their structure is what it is, so they can all walk into the best they have."

Any dog should be able to walk into a stack, since a stack just shows the dog's natural stance.  Not all GSD stacks are going to look the same (some of the extreme Am Lines will look like they're doing the splits, less extreme German and working lines will not).  The dog should be stacked so that it looks natural and balanced, not trying to mimic what another dog looks like.  Since I do Schutzhund I see many dogs doing their stand out of motion and most of the time, these dogs are stopping and holding their natural "stack" with no help from the handler or any lures.  When I want to get a "stacked" photo of my dog, I often have him heel and then command the stand out of motion, then walk over a take a picture.  If a dog is not stacking, it's not because the dog is not physically capable but usually because he is fidgeting or a handler is trying to place him and he's not used to being touched that way.  My own dogs don't like a lot of manhandling so when I show them I just walk them into a stack and ask them to stay.  If I try to manipulate it myself it generally looks unnatural.
