So, I got this puppy from a lady who found her in January and decided she couldn't keep her. She never claimed her to be anything but a puppy she found. I got her for free and did the research myself on breeds she could be associated with. Anyway, I know she has the classic shepherd look with her markings, black spots on her tongue, and growth rate. I've never had a GSD before, although I've had several different breeds. Does she look full blooded, or just a mix? The 1st pic is from about Jan 15, the last is from March 3rd or 4th. Also, her one ear was standing most of the time the day we got her but within a few days it fell and now it only stands when she's concentrating on something, surprised, etc. Is that normal? I have her on large breed dog food by Pedigree if that means anything.

      Johnson5326.....

IMO the first two pictures remind me a little of a Rottweiler ...

The third looks more like a shepherd....

One thing for sure is she's very cute....: )

Thanks. She is spoiled for sure. She's really catching on to commands quickly too. I have had her for 3 weeks now and she sits, lays down, gives her paw, stays, does a half jump, and has been working on walking on a lead (the leash freaked her out a little on just her collar so I put the harness on her and she did great). We've taken her to friend and family's houses to start her on socialization and I usually only have her on leash the first few min. b/c she just stays within about 20 feet of me. She's a great girl.I just wish I knew anything at all about her parents. I am having some problems with her being a bit of a bully to my chihuahua mix. She tries to ride his back until he bites her. I guess she will learn from him what is acceptable but she's already almost 3 times his size and I don't want either of them to get hurt. I've had several pit bulls, chows, and big dogs but they were usually related and raised together, not introduced any later than a week or two old.

She's VERY cute, either way!

If it's really important for you to know what breed she is you can always buy a DNA breed kit.... They're fairly inexpensive.

Thanks, guys. Maybe I will get the test kit just to see what it says (I know its not always accurate). Maybe rottweiler, lab, or a whole group of other breeds are in there somewhere. I just want to be sure about the food, training, exercise (not overdoing it), health issues to watch out for, etc. I want to do some aility training and other activities to keep her from getting bored or overweight but I don't want to do anything to hurt her in any way. I've heard not to do jumps with the large breeds until they are at least a year old and to only work for a short period of time. She's been getting about 5-15 min. intervals of exercise and play at least 3 times a day. I let her run loose in the back fence with the chihuahua mix for about an hour a day (they play, smell the yard, lay and roll in the grass, drink LOTS of water, normal dog stuff). Then I do her training inside with treats until we go through about a handful of kibble (its the Kibbles and Bits that I have to give the chi mix because he can't eat the large breed food) for maybe 5-10 min. once or twice a day. Then she plays with toys with us or alone until she gets tired of it and we have been going out in the yard or to my family and friend's houses where she just goes along with whatever else is happening. My hope is just to have a happy, well rounded and socialized dog that my son can grow up with (he's 4). I think she's perfect for all of us and we are so in love with her no matter what breed(s) she is.

She`s a very lucky puppy to have such a loving stimulating home, whatever breed she is.  Well done.  Mo.

She looks like a mix in the first two pictures.  In the third pic she shows her Shepherd genes.  The DNA kit is the way to go.  She is very cute.  Her ears are normal for a pup her age and for a Shepherd.  Her head is a little boxy...not sure what that is.  But I think she is more GSD then any thing else.  No one really knows...DNA test will tell you every thing you want to know about her.
