Hey guys,

The picture is of a 5.5 month old GSD, she wasn't sedated so positioning isn't perfect. Opinions would be greatly appreciated. I'll let you know what the vet said a little later.

Duplicate....no idea why.

I've got a question...what's going on w/all these little pups being xrayed? If I didn't have a real reason to do that, no way would I let a vet manipulate young hips that way.

Felloffher, are the knees not in the xray at all? And all that spine is? I would really like to see how the knees are positioned. I can tell somewhat, but I want to know to what degree.

Hey Jen,

She was limping around for a couple of days earlier this week, so I wanted to see if she had hip issues or pano. This was emailed from the vets office the original showed knees (maybe smaller for email?), her legs weren't stretched out like they typicaly would be, more of a frog leg positon (hope that makes sence) for the x-rays. No pano and two of the vets that reviewed her hips said they look good. I'm not an expert, but the shape of the femur head on the right hip makes me question this. Thoughts?

Yeah, they look good at this point in her life.  Keep lean and muscle up slowly;  best of luck  Nan

I *think* what you're seeing is shadowing and not remodeling. I looked at pretty closely and it's hard to tell, but that's my gut trying to picture what they'd look like positioned properly. I went back and forth on this; I do see what you mean and I would err on the side of caution, but I think they look fine and wouldn't worry at this point. I certainly don't think that's what's causing her enough pain to limp. When knees are rotated properly for an xray, they look much rounder and well seated. I think it's better that they DIDN'T force her into proper hip xray position, actually. Pano doesn't always show up, just so you're aware. Most likely, she has some type of soft tissue injury. I'm dealing w/the same thing.

I would keep her skinny, don't let her be a weekend warrior (either keep her quiet, or let her exercise freely- no hard exercise after a long rest), and give her salmon oil w/vitamin e every day.

Felloffher

No dog ever limps at 4 months from bad hips. That is just a way from vet to spend more your money on hip x rays. If the dog limps at this age it is:
1.Pano
2. soft tissue injury
3. broken bone.

Thanks for the responce guys and  thanks for pointing that out Hans, on the bright side the x-rays were only $125.00.

How is it that Hans says what I mean in 90% fewer words?
