My male use to do this all the time starting when he was about 9 months old. He actually did not need to use the bathroom...lol...he was just being a little jerk...; )...
He had to be corrected for this behavior consistently over a period of time to get it through his thick head that it was not acceptable to growl, bark or lunge at any family member through his cage or crate...: )
He is much better, but he is still a lil jerk from time to time and needs a reminder...: )

(No matter whether quiet - a dog will hear, sense and know a nearby presence)!
So providing she has adequate exercise, when you have required rest time, just strut into the area normally, acting unaware of her. But equally, at present, if she should grumble or bark, either yell, "Oi" with an assertive attitude, or even perhaps walk over and bang the crate with your hand and say nothing! Then walk confidently back out of the room in the same way as you came in.
Create a reasonable routine that she can establish the need to relieve herself, and exercise too. Then overnight she will be fine. But equally act in a manner that you are in charge, and do not need to creep cautiously around her. Let her be aware of learning to be more respectful of you.
Hope this helps,

my little guy does the same thing sometimes.. i will agree with the jerk think too.
hes 6 1/2 months now. crate trained. sleeps in his crate is in his crate in the truck when i go to work.
i know his pee and poo routines.
but when im around the house hes always out of his crate untill around 11pm, he gets his last pee.
straight into his crate with a treat.
the answer your question.
try to not put him in the crate untill its bedtime for everyone. dogs love to be around even if its just to watch t.v. or watching you cook dinner.
i always play and train him in the house, tell him to sit, then throw the ball down the hallway atleat 30 times anight, hes soo tired by bedtime that he just crashes and i can watch a movie in peace.
lots n lots of exercise and traingin with it too, and your dog will be tired in the mind and body.
hope this work
