I was wonder if somebody could advise me on who actually looks at the xrays that you submit to the SV for certification?
OFA has 3 orthopedic vets that read the xrays - I have heard that the SV only has one person that reads the xrays for the Certification for SV...I am not sure if this is accurate as well...
What is his/her credentials? Is he a orthopedic doctor as well...?
I did a google search but couldn't find out any of this information. I am a USA member so I would go thru them - but I was just wondering this... Please advise.

Hip x-rays are read and evaluated by Prof. Wilhelm Brass and his team of assistents at the TU Hannover (Technical University Hannover).
Elbow x-rays are read and evaluated by Prof. Bernd Tellhelm of the University of Giessen. Prof. Tellhelm is also the evaluator of hip x-rays in the case of 2nd opinions and arbitration in the SV. In addition, he evaluates for the RSV-2000 and other breed organizations as well.

The Hips are valuated by one Professor and the Elbows by someone else
the hips and elbows are not valuated by the same person. It pays also to get the DNA done at the same time, extra cost of course

Thanks Silbersee and Steve1- I appreciate the answers.
What is the professors expertise? I am just curious. A friend and I got into a discussion on who reads OFA vs SV and I was just really clueless about the SV. He seemed to think that the OFA was made of of more experts than the SV. I couldn't really contribute to the conversation because I just frankly didn't know who read the SV's xrays....nor did I know if they were orthopedic specialists....
I like the fact that you can certify hips/elbows at 12 months with the SV. My friend, couldn't understand why the SV would certify hips at 12 months but the OFA waits until 24 months..... He felt that there was some problem with the time difference in certifications between the two.....He of course put all his stock in OFA - not SV - but I would like to really know more about what goes into the certification of the SV for hips/elbows. As well as the expertise of the Professors reading the xrays.
Thanks.

The Professors who look and gives there judgment on the Joints of Dogs in the SV are Orthopedic experts, One does the Hips and another the Elbows.
The DNA or blood sample is paid for at the time we have the joints X-Rayed, These also go to the SV but to a different place for testing and the result, We then get a bill for the DNA and the Hips and Elbows.
Gina is 12 months old this month i will wait a month or so before taking her to Holland to get the Joints x-rayed by a Top Vet who specializes in taking these kind of X-Rays as i have done in the past he then sends them on to the SV
When we take the Dog to Holland to be X-Rayed we give the Vet the Original Pedigree of the dog, this goes to the SV sealed with the X-rays and blood sample and is sent by the Vet to the SV to be signed for when delivered to them
When the SV sends the original pedigree back to me with the results stamped in i have to sign for the package. Overall it takes 3 months plus from start to finish to get the results back. That is the worst bit as you are always thinking about the results, however the Vet who does the X-Rays has a very good idea and he tells the customer what he thinks but of course it does not count but if he says all is well or not he usually is correct, Guys even drive from Germany to have the dogs joints done by this Vet he is very good indeed, one Fellow drove 1200 miles round trip with his Dog to have this Vet X-Ray the dogs Joints

I took Gina to him at 5 months old as a Prelim he took her spine as well that time he said then her Joints were great, But it did not mean that they would not change as she grew up. We will see how things are this time I must book her well up in advance as he is a busy man so better do it whist i am thinking about it

Thanks Steve1 - 3 months is a long time to wait-------t on pins and needles - but it is better than waiting 24 months - to get disappointing results..........
Armauro pin hip is great to do in the beginning - but honestly - in my opinion that is for breeding purposes.....I want a stamp from OFA or SV. Pennhip is a good indicator of what to expect - but OFA or SV is more excepted at this time..............hell I dont think PDB has a category for Pennhip results..........
Steve1............ do you know for a fact that these professors are orthopedic experts?
Tell me more about this DNA... Forgive me but I don't know what the importance is in this?

These Profs in general are tutors at Vets Universities Here in Belgium they work at the Unis and do this job as well.
Regarding the DNA You cannot get a keuring with a Dog unless you have had the DNA this tells you that the dog is from the Parents it is supposed to be from and the pedigree will have the offical stamp on it just the same as the grading for the Hips and Elbows
Also over here if you want to breed from a Dog and register with the Governing body of the country then you must do the DNA that is the criteria set down
Yesterday i booked young Gina for her Hips and Elbows and the DNA i take her to Holland on April 4th
the Vet will send the Bits on to the SV for there findings

you saying that the hips/elbow certification that the SV does is mute if you don't do a DNA as well?
