do some sables like grey get lighter as they age? when do dogs of sable color usually stop changing color and reach their adult color? 1 year?

Seems like ours is still changing (although not as much) and she is 11 months old. Most that I have seen get darker as they get older. i was told to wait until she was around 2 to see what she would finally look like.

My dog Theo von Ryan took 3 years to get to his adult color, he just got darker and darker.

Remember that a sable is fur that is black or gray tipped on the ends, so if you shaved your sable she would be tan colored.
All the baby fur that's shed off is the under coat, which is usually lighter, check the brush and see what color comes off after brushing her, that's the color she will least end up with!

My sable was lighter, now I see his color remained almost the same after he crossed 14 months old but darker than befor.

I think the colour might change until the dog is hormonally matured - maybe 24 months.

Red Sable

Your dog seemed to lose his red Ibrahim, and turn tan, or is that just the picture?  As a pup he was really red.  His face has really darkened up, I love it.

Here is my female:

as a pup,

This picture was just taken a month or so ago, the date on my camera went alflunko.  The puppy  picture was actually in 2008. She is almost 3 now.

I think I must be one of the very few people who had a sable who actually got lighter with age. My friend who had not seen Amadeus in many years saw a picture of him at 6 and asked "didn't he used to be a LOT darker??"
