I have two Ober girls whoes ears are barely standing at 8 months of age.  One girl has one ear down to the side 90% of the time but it will stand once in a while.  Is this a problem in this line or just in these two girls.  Mother is a Pakros daughter.  Im hoping they firm up soon.

Thanks Jan

Its best to see the complete pedigree before jumping to conclusions that the father is one of the primary suspects for passing on a fault like this.

are both dogs kept together in the same kennel or pen
if they are that might be your problem. u might want to start taping the ear

I had a Pakros 2 yr old son, his ears were very soft and weak as well, they were erect but the top 1/3 of them flimsy. So may be coming from the dam lines.

Thank you, the girls are together.  I will seperate them and post the ear.  Thanks

when you keep 2 puppies together they play by grabbing each other by ear lick each other’s ear licking will cause yeast infection and the ears will go floppy. Keep the ears clean and dry it’s a good idea to clean ears with an over the counter ear cleaning solution. Keep them separated if you let them play together watch who is grabbing the ear, don’t allow them to grab each other’s ears. Give them calcium pill 2 a day for each dog lots of bones. Don’t give up on tapping and if need be glue a piece of Foam to the inside of the ear. (Otherwise they will stay down)

You should NOT have to tape a German Shepherds ear...they are to be naturally erect. There are various reasons that ears can be weakend... keeping dogs together is not one of them that I have ever witnessed..

Were there ears EVER both erect? If so I would not be so worried IF they are now doing a flip flop??? I

yes infection, growth sprouts, nutrition and other things can impact....but honestly and typically the dogs ears should be errect, and taping German Shepherds ears masks any potential we may have for weeding out genetic defaults..

I too would not be so quick to jump to one source as the culprit, but would not rule the combination out.

I like the suggestion of giving the calcium.(tums?)  You may also give added Vit C...or Knox ultra joint something like that that has all of it...sometimes in larger boned or bigger headed ones it may take longer to go up.

My vote is NO ARTIFICIAL ERECTIONS......only natural.

YES...yes the bones for chewing on at this age!   Also  teething and growth of the jaw  and the big molars and head that helps the ears.... and  good amount of sunshine and natural excercise.

GOOD luck!
