Is it at all possible to breed 2 white gsd's and get a black/tan pup?. Further investigation of my dog's pedigree seems that her paternal grandparents were both white but their male pup is noted as black and tan. Im not a nreeder but this seems a bit of an impossibility. Can anyone enlighten me?

It's not normally possible no, since white is a recessive. It could be possible that a mutation occurred, but that would be a very rare occurrence.
Do you know the colours of the rest of that litter?

So would it be possible then for 2 black and tans that have white in their past to have a white pup?
i dont know the colours of the rest of the litter but both parents of my pups dad were white and they came from maternal - white and a black and tan - paternal both black and tan BUT the 2 black and tan were from the Raggengill stable - (Mr Plummer) who i know did a lot of work with the white of the breed to get it to good stock. I beleive way back when he got given 2 black and tans and introduce them to whites to get a good stock base

Yes it is possible for two B&Ts to produce white offspring. As a recessive, it can be carried hidden and when two carriers are bred together, each pup has a 25% chance of inheriting it from both parents to produce white.
