My friends German shepherd was diagnosed with diabetes, the vet suggested he got for eating too many boiled bones (bone a day). Any truth to that ( I personally give my dogs raw bones)
Does is make a difference if the bone is given raw or boiled,
Any thoughts

As a human diabetic, I am slackjawed at this lol. Hmmm I would get a second opinion ;)

As a person who knows way more than her fair share on diabetes (in humans) I'd say it's time to change the vet. Diabetes is not caused by consumption of too much of one food item. Delveloping Diabetes has a lot more to do with genetics and body condition. A healthy balanced diet and plenty of exercise, and keeping lean is the best way to avoid diabetes.
I'd personally be more worried about any added chemicals in one's meat source, than the bones themselves. I disagree with giving a pup cooked bones for reasons purely unrelated to diabetes. Raw bones however are just fine.
Your pup stands about as much chance of getting diabetes from eating natural raw bones as s/he does of winning Americas Next top model.
But hey a second opinion never hurts.

you can get diabetes from being over weight but get your weight under control your diabetes will go away but type 1 diabetes is because your pancreas has packed in and does not produce enough insulin or none at all so u need to inject insulin as for boiled bones i would tell your vet to go and boil his head.

I feed my dogs raw bone all the time, obviously they eat other things too,the acids in the stomach are able to break down the bone to powder so this is how it comes out the other end. The stomach cannot digest cooked bone it will come out as it went in.Also could cause a lot of damage internally if any sharp pieces are swallowed.
I do not know if boiled bones are rancid when cooked or coated in something.
I cannot think of another reason for boiled bones causing diabetes, unless there is not enough meat etc in the diet and too many boiled bones, probably should not be fed them daily.
