I just got a call from a young lady that needs to place her newly imported 5 month old female GSD.
The puppy has a good foundation training in bite work, tracking, & obedience so far.
She'll need additional socialization. The pup is too much for the owner to handle, & showing unwanted behaviors toward her 3 year old son & adult Golden. The pup was sold to this lady as "protection dog" LOL.
I'm not the breeder / importer / or related to this dog. But agreed to help her train the pup & place her in a new home. Anyone looking for a show line pup or willing to take the dog in as a foster, please IM me.

Pup's pedigree - http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/pedigree/698150.html
I'll be meeting with the dog's owner next week. I'll take photos of her then, & can provide more info.

Anyone that knows this pedigree please provide additional info for me, I'm not into SL any more since the late 80's. I'm just trying to help this woman out & prevent this puppy from going into rescue / shelter.

Thanks, Carol

Hi there,

This GSD line appears to be coming from Hungarian kennel "van Contra" www.vancontra.hu
I am not familiar with this Hungarian kennel, but it looks to me that they use lost of their own dog lines with the slight mix of lines from Germany.
According to the information found on the above posted link  - father/sire of this 5 months old puppy is 8 years old www.vancontra.hu/main.php and mother is 12 years old www.vancontra.hu/main.php
Also, it appears to me that mothers pedigree in the pedigree-database is entered wrong.

If indeed mother is 12 years old, I would personally have a big issue getting a 5 months old puppy from her litter......but that is just my opinion.

Good luck.

Huh that's a neat trick since according to the records Hester's sire is two years younger than she is.

Oh wow, thanks for the info soo much!

Sounds like this woman really got fed a load of BS & she believed it all. She is a novice owner & to the breed. She only had the puppy for a week now. She purchase her from a man claiming he had a kennel in Germany of top working dogs. She was looking for a young adult for family protection. He told her that he had a 5 month old puppy that was ready to full fill that job for her. She paid $2,500 for the pup + shipping. Plus obviously didn't get what she paid for or thought she was getting.

The first day in her home the puppy had unwanted behaviors toward her 3 year old son & her other dog. She described other temperament issues too, hard to tell if it's really the puppy's temperament or poor training + lack of socialization. I haven't seen the dog yet, but seems like it's the latter.

She has been in contact the breeder / importer, he told her the puppy was not socialized yet.
He also told her to just roll up a news paper & smack the pup with it for any unwanted behavior.
So she does not want to return the puppy back to the breeder after this advise.
But also feels her 3 year old son & older Golden are in danger from this puppy. She is basically scared of her & don't trust her. She does not wish to keep her any more. But wants her in a experience home She doesn't care about getting her money back at this point but just wants the puppy gone..

I do NOT wish to purchase this dog or keep her for myself.  I just feel bad for this family & the puppy.

Personally I have very little sympathy for owners like you describe.

A week for a young dog to be taken away from the only home it's known, flown 24 to 48 hours, whole new language, new food, new water, new everything and this nitwit throws in the towel?

Tell her to go to the vet and hold the dog while they put a needle in the dog's vein.  She needs a damn lesson herself, let alone this poor puppy.

Maybe next time this moron will get some education before inflicting herself and her family on another dog.

Christ.

Exactly my sentiments RLHAR except your comment for putting the needle in.This poor little mite needs time, patience and lots of TLC to adjust to her new surroundings and family.Shame on this lady.Would she have expected her son aged 3(approx same age as this pup in doggy years)to travel from the opposite side of the world on their own, away from everything he knows to an unknown, strange place, strange language, strange ppl and not show some sort of fear. Some ppl.expect too much from young animals.Wish i could have her but i live in the uk.Carole S.Rheinmeister gsds. P.S.I hope she finds the home she deserves with a family who will have the time, experience and love to devote to this wee girl as she sure sounds like a good quality gsd pup, tho.i am not familiar with some of the dogs in the 1st 3 generations.

Noddi,

I genuinely feel for this poor dog.  No dog, especially a confused puppy should wind up in circumstances like this.

But we keep bailing people out of their mistakes and all they do is go make the next one with the next dog.   It's a never ending cycle.

RLHAR, I do agree with you to an point. I'm not happy with getting a call from this woman crying for help for a 5 month old puppy. I do see her turning the puppy over to a shelter or putting her down soon.
I just don't want to see the poor puppy suffer because of the breeder she came from or the owner that purchased her.

Personally I think the puppy is acting like a normal 5 month old puppy that is under socialized, lived in a kennel, etc.. The owner has worked with the puppy & she is doing very well in that regard. She knows basic obedience, does well out in public, etc.. claims the puppy was doing bite work training for SCH-?

But she has a strong guarding behavior over her food / toys / crate, will charge growling & barking at her, her son, & other dog in the home. She will chase her son if he runs. She dominates the other dog in the home also. Puppy doesn't seem to tolerate her son very much & he gets the most of her negative behavior. Due to that the owner is scared to keep the puppy to continue working with her.

She really wants to leave the puppy with me, I told her I couldn't do that at this time. But if worst came to worst I'll take in the pup to foster & have GSD rescue help me place her. But I just think that the owner should handle the placement of her puppy she purchased, & not just pass it off onto another party.

It was obvious that she doesn't have a connection with the puppy & is afraid of her. So I don't think she is in the best environment either. Would love to see the puppy in a experience GSD home who will love her.

She does sound like a promising working dog in a showline.

The owner on the other hand should not have reproduced.

Good luck if you end up with the puppy.  It sounds like a fair, consistent hand with some discipline and understanding will straighten out any issues the dog has.

i completely agree.thank yu Cp Hudson.you are a star.Carole S.
