What are your thoughts and opinions on what Asko and his progeny produced? Seems to me that this is one stud that people either hate him or love him. I have heard widely contradicting opinions about his contribution, for good and for bad, to his decendents, varying from "He is known to produce nerviness, dog aggression, and handler aggression and was so unstable he had to be largely trained with only positive methods as he would explode when pressured" - to - "He was one of the great dogs of late, and is knows for passing on clear-headedness and a stable temperament into his progeny, thus his lines are still highly sought after for these reasons."
Clearly very different opinions and views - what have people experienced and observed in general in what he produced, first and second generation? Anyone met the dog or worked him in person? What was your opinion of him? Why the polarized reputation in general?

With 693 puppies listed on the pdb under Progeny, it's not surprising that there are wildly different opinions of what he produced, simply because even a good producer is most likely going to have some clunkers with that many on the ground, maybe more than some. And just the reverse: even a poor producer can have some real winners out of 693.

I also heard a lot of contradictions about Asko... Observing some his progeny I'd prefer rather not to have him in the pedigrees of my dogs...

But what was it you observed that makes you say this? And were the offspring from good or from mediocre bitches?

Great Question Tess? We all have an opportunity to learn something. This is the point of this forum. We are not asking you facts but just your opinion on what you did not like. Hope you don't chicken out and tell us what the deal is?

i have seen some Asko progeny and they had solid nerve and alot of power and aggression in there bite work, they didnt seem like the type of dog for inexperianced handlers. From what i have seen i wouldnt mind it in the right ped.

Does anyone know where he stands as far as siring dogs in the BSP? Not saying this is answer to question, as I don't know, but if he has few dogs it would support one side, if he has many dogs it would either support some of the other side OR support the importance of the female in a breeding as you can't have it both ways. Just curious.
BTW, before anyone says it doesn't mean anything because of handler/trainer make the dog...I suggest you look at the list of good BSP producers and will the same logic apply to them if this dog shows to be productive as part of producing top competition dogs.

I have an Asko son out of a Uruk vom Schwarzen Milan daughter ( Flower vom Zuchtgut); line bred on Urs aus der Hopfenstraße and Pascha vom Glockeneck. He just turned 3 years old and even though he is still very young in the head, he is a super sport and family dog. The genetic influence that he received either by the Asko line or the Flower line is amazing. In all phases of his training when I teach him something new, 95% of the time he learns it and certain things I have never had to teach him, he genetically did it. Now I am not saying that he is perfect, no dog is perfect but for what I want in a sport and family dog, he is a good dog. He lives with 3 other dogs in the house and has a solid temperament around people. Hips and elbows are fine and he has been a very healthy dog.
In the bite work he has power in the guarding, stopping the helper and always a full grip. Not much aggression, more prey but he is still very young in the head and everyday we see him mature more and more. I will keep him. :)
