You definitely need to have them check for Megaesophagus!  I'm on my second female with Mega-esophagus-dogs need to be fed soften to liquid food from an elevated surface if not a "Bailey" chair.  Dogs with Mega-esophagus are given to aspiration=pneumonia.

Also a word of warning-anesthetizing relaxes the esophagus even more-not something the vets will tell you-I was informed very late in the game after allowing the UMVTH to perform many precedures over a two year period-it tracked true--and a peg tube in not always the answer-my girl went from a robust 75# to a thin 54# after allowing the insertion-I finally had her PTS when her relaxed esophagus excessively compressed her lungs-if I had known then what I know now I might still have her-she was truly that once in a lifetime German Shepherd.

My regular vet and I are very careful with the care & treatment of my second girl, although she does not seem to be as affected as the first-she's over two and a half years old and only on her second treatment for possible pneumonia.

Good luck.

Hi I had a pup that made this sound the only way I could describe this noise to the vet was it was like a baby with a crickly chest the vet could not understand what was wrong with the pup she took this when she was 5 days old [she was a single pup my female only had one] the vet put the pup on antibiotics for 7 days and then back to the vet for a check up  more antibiotics for another week  this went on untill she was 5 weeks old  she was putting on weight  getting bigger doing all normal things that pups do I also gave her manuka honey in warm milk 2 times a day and this seem to help some times she was normal and sometimes a bit noisey in her chest she went to vet for more check ups but they could not find what was causing this but very happy to say the noise disappered  she got her 1st jab at 8 weeks and her next one at 10 weeks she has never looked back and is in great health she is 14 months old now my vet did think at first it was mega esophagus but ruled that out  I hope that your dog and pup get well good luck with them
