dom 024

I recently adopted this dog from an Elkhart, IN rescue.  I was told he was once owned by Dr. Lesley Scholl of Elkhart, IN and was imported from Germany.

I was told his name is "Dom," he has no tattoos.  He is about 95 lbs, in good weight.  Has a huge head and bone, tight feet.  They said he was 6-ish, but I think more like 7 or 8-ish.  He does a Schutzhund heeling routine to "fuss."  He has some broken canines suggesting he might have done a lot of bitework, but I have not had him out to the club yet.

I would love to know this dog's pedigree, where he came from, etc.  If he was imported by Dr. Scholl, I am hoping someone here might have assisted in the importation, or might know who did.

If you have any info on this dog, please let me know!  Thanks so much for reading.

Wow....What a dog! He is beautiful. I think you hit the jack pot finding this boy in a rescue. Very sad he would end up there...

My first thought when I read this was, If this dog was owned by a Dr. it shouldn't be hard to locate that Dr. Maybe the Dr. can point you in the right direction to find answers... I would be on the hunt so quick to find out why this gorgeous guy ended up with a rescue or  in a shelter....I probably would be on pins and needles with the thought that I may have to surrender the dog to his owner if he ended up there by accident....But its all about the poor dog, and whats best for him.....Good Luck to you and  I hope you get to keep him. He surely is a fine boy....

[sent a PM regarding the dog]

As for Dr. Scholl, I remember hearing the name on one of my news feeds a few years ago. You might not have much luck getting in touch with him...

Doctor Charged--Elkhart doctor Lesley Scholl, 49, charged with hiring hit-man to kill wife, her lawyer, and another doctor [source]

[edit: Ah, Judy beat me to that.]

OMG!!! Just read the source link....He sounds like a lovely person......  Guess you would have a problem getting in touch with him.....He doesn't even deserve this dog anyway.....I don't judge people but, I do hope he gets what he deserved...

If he were imported, I'd think there'd be an ear tattoo.

Actually, it would probably be quite *easy* to contact the doctor since he's not likely to be relocating any time soon...you'd just need to send a letter to him there in care of the prison where he's being held.  Might want to use a PO Box for any response he might send you, though, perhaps even a PO Box in an area some distance from where you actually live....don't think I'd want this character knowing my real name, let alone where I lived.

Or perhaps you might try to contact his wife (hopefully, she's the ex-wife now) or the attorney he allegedly tried to have killed...that would probably be a safer route to go.  The names of all the involved parties can be found in the criminal complaint document that's linked on the source site shown above...

Handsome dog, and I'm glad he's in good hands and a forever home now. :)  Blessings on you for opening your heart to him.

Thank you all for you comments!   He is a very smart, gorgeous old guy, and he will be living a very pampered life for the rest of his life.  He's just so obviously the product of careful breeding, I really would love to know his bloodlines.  He has very thick bone, a giant head (a vet thought he was an Akita), a short wide muzzle, great pigment and tight bear-like feet.  I will post a conformation shot here soon.

Yes, I understand the doctor is a guest of the federal system now.  The people who surrendered the dog to the rescue told the rescue that Dr. Scholl had imported the dog from Germany, and that they had been taking care of the dog since the doc "went away."  The dog was also 20 lbs underweight, was full of worms, had an ear infection and a broken tail.

It has been suggested to me that I write the doc in prison, and I actually think I am going to do that.  After all, he's not too busy to write me, is he?
