www.youtube.com/watch

Its 13mins long, I suggest watching the first few minutes and then the last two which is good with a dilapidating test in the final seconds.

It's an interesting event. From Polizei Leipzig, Frankfurt, Köln, Danish, Belgian and French Air Forces, Politie Limburg-Noord, Bundeswehr Germany, Italian and Hungarian Police Forces they compete in the following competitions:

Watchdogs, Search and Rescue dogs, Narcotics and Explosives detection dogs and an overall service dog biathlon of 10 km.

The video was of Jürg Berger, also a Schutzhund helper. He's been around quite a long time and at a guess he's 50 yrs. He was doing a demonstration run hence the mock shooting.

I like the idea of a setting a goal for the Handler/Dog, I know some prefer throwing a ball, but this is an extreme example. Different Clubs could have an entry and raise money for a favourite charity each year. We could have different categories (veterans) etc.

How sad that this post has no replies.....

My sneakers are starting to squish just watching that, but I would love to try something like that some day.  I ran in a 5k with my GSD in downtown Minneapolis.... does that count... LOL yeah not so much

I know my s.o. ran in some iron dog triathalon event in Chicago many years ago with his presa canario.  It was awesome, timed event differnt teams and classes/age catagories.  I'll see if I can dig up some pictures.  Training for that event is what got him to quit smoking ciggaretts (for good)!

We have talked about hosting a lesser skill level event for our pet dog clients but due to a lack of interest put it on the back burner.  Maybe I should start planning a working dog "fun run"....... hmmmmm

Thanks for sharing the video, its a long one but worth watching.

"How sad that this post has no replies..... "

Uh, it'd been posted for only one hour before you said that.  Give it some time.

It's late at night in Europe and in the States people are either still at work or, on the East Coast, trying to get home.

Hopefully it'll get some more views.

Now that's an IRON dog!

Like your idea of creating some sort of event like this  for charity. Pretty cool clip. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the reply, I don't think a lot of dog people are particulary fit or healthly, many seem to still smoke and think if they can see there own dogs ribs then the animal must be healthy.
This is quite extreme but I don't think it would take a lot of effort  for even the Showlines to do the AD, which would add some credibilty to the dogs.

For me that video was about the team effort and achievement.

Cheers

Hey Tess,

It looks to me this was first posted on November 6th......

Maybe something goofy on my end, but I found it by looking at Ronin's past posts

regardless, I'm glad its getting some attention

Oops, you are absolutely right, dAWgESOME.  I missed that completely.  In that case, I'm glad you bumped it back up!

No worries Tess :-)

So I posted this video on my facebook and 5 of my working dog friends are also interested in being involved in this event.  I have a great location and at least one helper who would play my little game with me.  I might just be able to pull something like this off......

I'm located in Southern Minnesota does anyone else think they might be interested?

Feel free to email or PM - If this day dream does actually come to fruition I'll post a more formal event invitation but just thought I'd test the waters first.
