Ive got a 6 month old mal and she is a really great dog in all areas except one big one. She is VERY skiddish of strangers. I cant have anyone even walk by in a 2 foot area without her barking and having her hair stand up. She is interested in sniffing people but wants to do it without them paying attention to her...any eye contact or someone talking to her and she gets scared and barks and backs up. I have socialized the heck outa her since she was real young but there doesnt seem to be any improvement. I am not too sure what to do. If she has like 5 min to sniff someone and have them ignore her she will relax and and then love attention from them.I have a trainer already and he thinks she will get over it, another trainer told me I might have to deal with this forever. Any suggestions?

Honestly, genetics play the number 1 role in temperament

Yeah I am looking for her papers for her bloodline. She was a pretty outgoing pup. She spent about a week in my house when she was about 8 weeks and the next time I went out with her she was completely aloof with people. When the breeder saw her again he said "What happened to her?"

Malinois are a difficult breed to explain. They need to be socialized from day one - by 8 weeks they need to be exposed to new situations/people everyday. My first Mal, I did not understand this and I did her a great disservice. By my second one I had learned my lesson and he was exposed to everything I could come up with. He turned out to be a great dog and is very social. Yes while bloodlines can explain a lot, a lack of socialization early in life can really cause problems.
