Hi!
I am new to this. I am trying to buy a German Shepherd dog but the mother is not registered in this website. So i got a bit suspicious and i believe that the sires' grandfather is also the dams' father. (this is a speculation since i can't find the mother in this site.)
If this is true will it be a problem in getting a pedigree for my dog??

Hi Mario,
Inbreeding/linebreeding is not necessarily a bad thing, in fact it helps solidify type in a bloodline.
Besides, if you are new to this, the pedigree will not mean much to you as unless you have seen the dogs they are just names on paper to you.
Also, while this database is a good resource, I would not be suspicious of a dog's ancestry because I could not find it here. Request copies of the parent's official pedigrees from their registering body.

This website is the brain child of a German Shepherd Dog afficionado named Oli, who provides we enthusiasts with a resource to research our dogs forebears & chat with one another. This site is not connected with any registering body, such as the AKC, UKC, or the SV. And not every breeder has opened his dogs pedigrees to the Database, although most of the common & popular lines can be found here. As you are new to the breed I am assuming, you may not be aware that there are different types of German Shepherd Dogs, each of which has there own very loyal & devoted following. Some lines are represented here more thoroughly than others, for example, it is more difficult to find an American Showlines Shepherd (also a type of German Shepherd Dog) pedigree on this Database, than it is to find a West German Showlines pedigree (also called Highlines). Finding the same dog in several different spots on the pedigree is not uncommon, the GSD is a relatively new breed, & that means they are all related to each other at some point in the pedigree. As StephanieJ pointed out, many very reputable breeders use linebreeding to better the breed. As long as both parents are registered, there should be a way to register the offspring. Are you in the USA & talking about the AKC? As this is an international board that discusses a breed based & originated in Germany, it would help to know where you are, & what registering body you are thinking about. There are some very knowledgable folks on here from many countries, & I'm sure one of them could quote you the rules for registration right off the top of their heads, if you tell them which you are talking about! I hope that helps! jackie harris

Hi!
First of all i want to thank those who bothered to answer!
The parents are both registered in the SV. I am aware about the different types of GS, it's just because it seems too close of a relationship so it made me worry a bit.
I was also wondering if one of the parents is not registered in this website can i still register my dog ?

Do you mean register your dog here on the PDB? It's entirely possible, it will take some time & persistence, but with patience it can be done, & you may even be pleasantly surprised at what other dogs your dog is related to, because once you enter your dogs pedigree, the Database will link it automatically to any related pedigrees in the Database. It's fun, & addictive. Don't be discouraged if the forms reject your dog's pedigree at times....you must be very careful with spelling, & do not use apostrophes or dashes, actually no punctuation. If it rejects a name, try using fewer letters, see what names the program pulls up, sometimes the dogs are already here, just the spelling is off.
If you mean registered with the SV, I'm sorry I can't help you with that, but I'm sure someone else can. Are you in Germany? jackie harris
